Facetime iphone

Only connect at home, but when we go outside doesnt connect. I was able connect from chicago.

Facetime works on Wifi, and not on 3g/4g. At least that is what I heard. That is why you can only work it at home

Which cell provider you are with?
Sometimes this feature is locked by provider.

Try:
to enable or disable FaceTime over cellular on iPhone and iPad

Launch the Settings app from the Home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
Tap on FaceTime.
Toggle the Use Cellular Data switch to ON.

To disable cellular data access, just repeat the procedure and toggle the switch to OFF.

What iOS both phones are using?

Then it should work fine over 3g.

From what I read AT&T is still working on unlocking facetime on the mobile network.

It is but they are opening it gradually based on markets and users. So its not a one time update.

How does facetime work? You have to have a phone number and a compatible device, right? I was never able to work it from my iphone to ipad or perhaps that is because I am signed in into a new account? I guess that I would stick with skype.

iPhone 4 or later: You can place a FaceTime call using the following apps:
Phone: While on a phone call, you can tap the FaceTime icon to invite the other party to a FaceTime call.

Contacts: Tap the FaceTime icon to place a FaceTime call to the contact you are viewing.

family in Chicago was able to connect with them here in Miami with mine and husband cell phones. me and husband connect fine with wifi at home, but when I try to connect with him while he was out didn't work.

Ok so i called at&t. Facetime works on iphone 4s, and 5 on wifi, and 3g, 4g networks. Iphone 4 only works on wifi only, which i have.

DMD, u were right about enabling celllular data which i dont have that option, so i enabled my husband's iphone 4s. I havent try yet, but i am sure it should work now.
