Facebook

My sister deleted her Facebook page…she says it was a liberating experience.

I can’t imagine a life without FB…I use it for a lot of things…and now I use to for marketing purposes too.

Can anyone relate to her? Who does NOT have Facebook or has deleted their page?

Re: Facebook

Many friends deleted their profiles in protest against the "Draw Muhammad Day". Useless, if you ask me. That's just like a pigeon closing his eyes and refusing to acknowledge the situation.

Re: Facebook

I have a page only because that was the only way to find some friends, but I don't do anything with it, and moreover, I really don't understand how it works. Tagging? Cryptic comments? Wall? Other people's postings showing up on your page? If somebody wnats to tell me something, they can send an email or skype me. I just don't get how it works. Not that I am looking for a tutorial. I am just fine without it.

Re: Facebook

Yeah, a work friend of mine deactivated her FB account because it was causing too much “drama” in her life. She almost lost her job due to it. She has activated it again though.

Facebook is just awaiin for me. I check it once a week or so. I don’t do all the crazy stuff FB is meant to be for. :bummer:

Re: Facebook

I don't have a FB profile...never made one. So many of my friends have bugged me about this...just never been interested. Don't have the energy to maintain it...don't have the energy for potential drama.

Re: Facebook

I mostly share stuff on it. Sometimes I'll use it to contact people, but that's very rare. It wouldn't change much for me if I stopped using it.

Re: Facebook

i have one and mostly use it to update things of the week, stuff i did, etc..it hasn't been a problem for me

Re: Facebook

Same here!

When people talk about drama...I don't know what they mean by it.

What kind of drama? Its fun to go on there and see what everyone is up to but what kind of trouble can you possibly get into?

Re: Facebook

Reha for drama…refer to my last blog entry :cb:

Re: Facebook

Its all for Fun nothing serious

Re: Facebook

I don't use it as much as i use to earlier however i don't think i would ever delete it cuz 1) its a good backup of my randomn thoughts :D 2) i have frnds from out of pak on my list whom i stay in touch with only thru fb.

I deactivated my FB for about 6 weeks and yes, it was extremely liberating!! I can’t really explain why, I just felt like my mind was less cluttered, I guess. An innocent, stupid comment I had made on one of those dumb personality analysis quizzes solicited an asinine comment from my cousin which in turn started MAJOR family drama, which resulted in me being cut off from half of my khandaan for about 15 months

Also, I just got sick of all the petty jealousy amongst my girlfriends when they would see pictures of get togethers or parties that they were not included in by others in our “group”…

I’m back on FB, mainly because it’s the best way to keep in touch with overseas relatives, and marketing my business, but I am not as “in to it” as before…

Re: Facebook

i am on facebook..more of a silent news feed viewers thingie...for me it's a lifesaver since it keeps me in contact with all my family back home in Pakistan. But am not the sort who would go check into places with the following people and share every itsy bitsy of my daily routine like some people do. I mean why would anyone care if you were just sitting at burger king having fun with x y z ! :p

The drama is there but so is limited profile and having different groups with different privacy settings on facebook too. :)
My husband isn't a big fan of facebook. He thinks it just breeds the narcisisstic qualities in a person and the fact that it's too public. Plus the privacy issues too.

Re: Facebook

agree......completely.

Re: Facebook

I've never had a facebook account, i tend to get bored of social networking sites so i just didn't bother making one.

Re: Facebook

I can relate to your sis =) I deactivated my profile about a year after joining fb... it was liberating for sure. For me it was more to do with the fact that I'm a really private person and I guess I felt uncomfortable with how public and open fb is. I know there are privacy options where you can limit your profile to others, but that seemed like too much effort for something that I didn't really want/need.

I don't need fb to keep in touch with anyone... I'm not close to anyone overseas (who I wouldn't see or something), my small bunch of closest friends all live 5 mins away from me and I see/speak to them on a regular basis and I live with my family. I'm happy with my close-knit circle of family/friends AH. Most of the people who were on my "friends" list (from school/college) became pretty much just "FB-friends" and being cut off from them is definitely no loss :D Those who were more than that, are still in touch with me.

Exactly!
I have been off FB almost a year now. And certainly don't feel the need to ever go back.

Re: Facebook

I don't have facebook, I did register on it a looooong time back as my bro sent me a link for it but I didn't know what it was I just joined and did nothing after that and I don't even know or want to know the log in details.

Mu hubby doesn't like it either and we both have stayed away from it, I suppose how much you share with people can be controlled with settings on FB but I much prefer to talk on the phone and hear a real voice and also meet a real person than FB.
I can understand how for some people who have family and friends living abroad it is a good way to stay in touch without having to call each other up all the time.

Re: Facebook

I deleted it for a few months. I didn't have the drama problem so much more the fact that I have an addictive personality, I get hooked on things fast. It was liberating, I had so much more time to spend with the familia. I re-activated after a while because of boredom really and now I am kinda hooked but I actually need it to stay in contact with a lot of people who I wouldn't want to take on the phone to, if ya know what I mean. Also it's cheaper than ringing international familia.
I'm cutting back again now hopefully, I think it takes up too much of my time.

Re: Facebook

My facebook account is just to have fun. There is almost nothing serious on there. I just use it to stay in touch with friends, procrastinate and see what everyone is up to.
