I don't usually add men who are strangers. If it's some girl who is sending a friend request, then I accept it. I don't think it's a big deal. Sometimes you are in a kind of a profession or field where you come across a lot of people. Like I am a photographer, so many different photographers/photography enthusiasts/people see my photo albums on Facebook and appreciate my work. Then they send me a friend request because not all of them albums are Public. In this regard, I do have gathered a lot of men, but it's for networking/ideas sharing purposes.
Some people including women dont use FB pages to open up their private life so its not a big deal if they have their friends brother or ex collegue on their FB list. Having males on one's FB page is not a reflection of one's low character, one could have just male on her FB and the lady could be the most chilattar baaz person and another lady could have 100 and still a decent and shareef lady.
and i always wonder how do the husbands tolerate ex-classmates/collegues on their wives' fb pages...My best friend's hubby and my sister's husband always has some problem with any male(frnd/colleague) who is added on their fb friends list..
I don't do facebook, but even I'm surprised by how people can have hundreds of friends on it.
If I remember correctly, they carried out some research at Oxford University which showed that our brains can only process 150 friends.
As for the number of male friends bit, that is irrelevant to me at least; another's definition of propriety is their own business.
Yeah but there are instances where you want to be connected with people for professional reasons...networking is huge. You never know where or how opportunity may arise.
Or maybe you just want to catch up once in a while. To see how everyone you went to school with is doing.

Maybe the same way most wives are ok with some female ex-classmates/colleagues on their husbands' FB friends lists (within reason).. It's called trust..
