So I change my cover photo or profile photo and unknown people start liking or commenting on it .. people who arent even friends of friends .. like , total strangers .. I am really keen to find out how total strangers get to the profile? any of you a technology geek who can explain to me how the site works?
I am sure it happens with many of us , and, I am aware the settings are public , but how do random people suddenly find you out right after you have changed a photo? is there are search tool i am missing out on?
change your settings to private [open ONLY to friends/relatives]. that’s what i was told and i closed my account with Facebook for this very problem…it’s very intrusive. i hate Facebook.
KKF , sorry to hear that .. actually I have all settings on Private and I dont mind the profile photo being public , coz eventually its in my hands how much i want to disclose .. but the question here is , how do random people get to a certain profile ? are they just randomly searching by names and just go about liking pictures ?
i think PROFILE pictures are always visible. if i search a name…all other names will show up and that’s when freaks pick a pic to like with a hope that the person liked may want to contact him/her…lol
idunno much…for me it was always a headache so i thought it’s best to close the account and i did! i’m happy now and at peace!
hmmm , thanks KKF , thats how i think they search too , but i have noticed that when a picture is constant , say for many many months , there arent likes from random people but the minute the profile pic is changed , random likes start dropping in .. it cant be solely due to search
When you change your profile picture (which by default is public),some one from your friends might like it.Say friend A likes it.Now since it is public,it will appear in the news feed for people who are friends with A but not with you.So someone from them might like it…then again it might appear in some third person’s newsfeed and some other group of friends can like it…total strangers to you.
This can be the only reason I can think of.If you set it as a private picture as soon as you post it,you shouldn’t be having this problem,I think.
As soon you post something new it is indexed and evenetually lands on other facebook newsfeed. Also on Google, yahoo etc.
So I have read on the facebook help pages just recently.
Don’t know what’s the real purpose of fake book, I started it long ago but stop in a year coz it’s not necessary. Time is changing fast to keep in touch with your friends and relatives we have a lot of apps. To just make too too too many strangers a friend I Don’t need it coz I have friends already.
