My daughter is begging me to open a FB account for her. She is 11 years old now. I told her that I will open a FB account for her with my email address which she agreed to. I want to keep a tab on who is on her friends list and what is being written on her wall.
As I too paranoid ? Is there some other way to keep tab on her FB activities ? I do not want her to be embarrassed later on about daddy censoring her FB.
Should she get a FB account at this age ? Many of her friends and cousins who are younger than her do.

I think what you're doing is perfectly reasonable. There's too many creeps and freaks on FB to let a young child go unsupervised

I think FB requests its users be 13, but obviously that's up to you.
The only way you can monitor her activity is by sharing her password/account.
So what if she censors because you can see the profile? We should have a censor on what we put out into the world, even the internet.

I think 13 is a reasonable age! just tell her that InshAllah when she'll turn 13 teen yr, she can open a fb account. I'm sure she wont have prob and may b can wait too...
I remember my mum did that with my sis too, she was given a age barrier where she was allowed to do certain things, fb account, wearing nailpolish etc etc...

make an email address password of which should only be known by you then let her make facebook account on that email id and make sure she tells you the password and Id. Then monitor her activities by checking that email . In addition ask her to add you in her facebook account too. I have cousins as young as 13 on my facebook and in all cases either mommy or daddy is there in their list of friends.

I hate facebook. Its got no privacy, causes unecessary stupid issues and has too many freaks asking for fraanddship.

however most people I know have 2 facebook accounts the naughty one and the nice one. On the nice one they have all their family and some friends and on the naughty one they have everyone else beware of this.
Also fb can get addicted so make sure she doesnt get addicted to it.
I hope fb dies before I have kiddies.

Its not always a "naughty vs nice" one, I have two profiles as well, my original one and one that I made for relatives in Pak...after some weird experiences having them on my original profile....
so its not always that a person with 2 profiles is two faced...

There are privacy settings. You can put as much or as little as you want on there. That is your choice.

My privacy settings were pretty high to be honest. I just dont like it because i wasted time on there tbh AND because its a tool for gossip- from personal experience.
I dont have an issue with other people using facey-b though.
also i feel facebook makes you lazy with communication.

I think 11 is too young. My DD12 is 13 very soon and she is not allowed one at all. I have one which she can see (her cousins, pupees and chachas etc are on it) but they are older than her. She won't be allowed until she is at least 16 and I know many of you think that is way too old but that's just my personal belief. 13 is still way too young, I don't want her to dabble in unpleasant things written on her wall and want to know who her mates are.

Update:
So I am off the hook for now. I sat with her and tried to create a FB account with her real age and it was denied by FB , kudos to FB for that policy.
She said let us use fake age , I said I do not want to teach you wrong things for the sake of FB , she being smart Alec she is said then can I lie for other things , I said no that is not the message and she smiled and said yes I know. And that was the end of it.
I am the super user at home so I can watch who is doing what , she is just the user not a system administrator on our network and home computers so she cannot hide her tracks. But I do not snoop I give my kids lot of room to grow and trust them and pray to Allah that they stay on right path. Ameen.
So far my policy has been working.

Facebook has everything only if people use it wisely just like u can murder someone with hammer or use it to put nail in the wall. Does that make hammer taboo?
and on OP, Mirch, I believe 11 is a bit too early but some kids are responsible even at this age. You were considering right strategy i.e using your email for creating her account.
