So I was looking for a face primer and while surfing I came across this
monistat chafing gel . And I read like aloooot of good reviews but thts not a primer . But people have been raving about it.. They say it’s a dupe for smash box primer.here is the link My Vanity Basics: Monistat Chafing Gel VS. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
i m looking for a primer which is like not very expensive coz I don’t wear makeup daily… Do u guys have any suggestions for drugstore primer. ?
plus do we really need a primer? Like a high end one benefit or smash box?
should I invest?
I use primer because it helps my foundation sit better on my face. I switched my foundation recently to a liquid based and the smashbox primer wasn’t working anymore. I read that you can’t mix a silicone based primer with a liquid foundation and vice versa so I went out and bought the Nars primer (Love it!).
I would honestly go to a Sephora and get a few samples. I tried the Laura Mercier and HATED it and loved the Nars so got that.
Yes you need a primer but it does not have to be a “high-end” one.
It doesn’t have to be “labeled” as a primer. If it works and does the job of a primer, use it. So if you want to give the Monistat a try, go for it.
I have only ever used high-end primers so can’t give you any drugstore recommendations. Hopefully someone else can recommend a few. I have used one from MUAC that I really like…it’s $30 and I’ll post the link below. I also recently bought one from Lancome but that’s really expensive so I won’t even get into it lol.
Just like any other product, feel free to get drugstore brands, try them and return if it doesn’t work. If you’re open to high-end, I would also recommend getting samples of a few and just seeing if you like them more. Since you don’t wear make-up everyday, buying a $30 primer will last you a long time.
Hard Candy face primer is awesome… it’s almost exactly the same as the Smashbox silicone primer… but personally i don’t like the feel of silicone-based primers, i feel like my skin is being suffocated. Also the Hard Candy one is only like $7 @ WalMart.
I mainly use the MUFE HD Primer… LOVE it. It’s like a moisturizing lotion, has a pleasant smell.. it’s so lightweight… my skin feels perfect when i wear it. I want to find a drugstore one with the same texture but haven’t so far.
L’oreal Studio Secrets - Magic Perfecting Base comes highly recommended based on reviews I’ve read. I tried it many years ago but because it’s 100% oil, it made me break out and I stopped (I had oily skin then). But from what I remember, it did give a nice, smooth finish. It was almost good enough just on its own. It makes skin look very silky.
I used this after reading reviews and I don’t think it did anything. I would really go to a sephora and look around. If you tell me what foundation you use, that may be more helpful
Milk of Magnesia works well as a primer too. I have oily skin, and it keeps it matte for hours. it is a liquid, so you just have to be careful when applying with your fingers
I remember Reha once mentioned that Maybelline’s primer was pretty good. Bought it after she suggested it on another thread, and actually quite like it, it’s silicon-like and very good for it’s price. Otherwise No7 has an okay-ish one.
Personally I use Mac’s prep + prime, and Smashbox’s primer too.
Really i have no idea about mixing and no mixing . .But yes I will going and getting few samples soon but just wanted to know wt really works. And a cheaper option
right now I m looking for a foundation . But yes I will get a liquid one .
Hmm I m actaully a little worried about using a product. It meant for face . Hmm
Ok I saw this muac one and it seems good since I have large pores and it also minimizes pores? Plus I like dewy finish on My skin . And it says it’s anti shine. Do u think it really like make UR face Matt? This product seems to be more of an anti shine and oil . What do u think?
Actually I went ulta and the lady applied lancome primer and it was good it instantly minimized my pores . How do u like that one?. Plus I have also heard good reviews about benefit porefessional .
Really do they take drugstore stuff back . I m always hesitant to buy drugstore products beacuse I can’t try them and I have like few products which never matched myskintone
I have never used Benefit but again, if you buy at at Ulta or Sephora or whatever…you can return it.
Aren’t you in the U.S.? Ulta, CVS, Wal-Green, Kroger, Wal-Mart…pretty much every store that sells make-up had a generous return policy. Just go to any store’s site and check. It’s always written there.
Benefit’s Porefessional is a great product…I have actually used this one and Dr. Brandt’s Pores No More alone with nothing on top numerous times and love them.
For drugstores you really have to try and see what works for you but Maybelline has a good one and as well as Hard Candy…both retail at Wal-Mart.
As for Monistat…I have not tried it for a primer so cannot comment on it.
Yes I m in us .. I know about ulta and sephora. But I never knew u can return drugstore stuff. I bought a foundation from walmart and they dint took it back . So since after that I never tried returning anything. From drugstore brands anywhere. Thanx for letting me know
this policy makes shopping easier
Most stores have a time limit on returns (30 days, 60 days etc.). Per Walmart’s own website, their’s is 90 days. So as long as you have the receipt, item/original box/packasing and taking it back within 90 days, I don’t see any reason for them to refuse. Unless it was a item that was marked as a “final sale” due to it being on clearence.
The lady told me we cannot take opened cosmectics stuff . I had me receipt plus I took it back in like a week and used tht like twice and did not like the color.
^ That’s weird. I’ve returned used make-up before with no problem. Must be a store specific thing. Next time, ask to speak to a manager and ask them to show you in their written policy where it forbids returns of used cosmetics.
Of course, you could also buy it from somewhere else where customer service is not so crappy.
