face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

So which has worked better for you? Concealer first and then foundation or foundation first and then concealer and I remember m_was_here mentioning blotting with blotting paper, then powdering, in one of the threads. Well I use starbucks’ napkins since i’ve read that those are also quite good as blotting paper. How hard do you press because when I blot quite a lot of the foundation sticks to the paper and I need to reapply.

I’m a newbie to makeup.

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

Face lotion, primer, foundation then concealer. That's the order. For blotting I usually take a tissue and there are two layers to a tissue, so I take them apart to blot. You are blotting too aggressively if your foundation is coming off. Try the half layer tissue method and only oil should be on the tissue once you blot.

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

So the day always starts with this:

Face lotion, eye cream, sunscreen.

If I decide to do makeup:

Primer, concealer, foundation.

If I blot, I use the Starbucks napkins as well. I place it on my shiniest areas, press very gently, no rubbing or moving of the makeup and then simply remove the napkin.

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

For make up, I use primer, concealer, foundation and primer again or blend some primer with foundation and then apply.

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

I think concealer should go on after the foundation cuz its an extra step and u can actually do without it depending on your skin needs and coverage you want and are getting with your foundation. So concealer can be an add on to cover specific problem areas esp if someone has dark under eye circles.

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

so you put concealer on first and then foundation...what's the advantage of putting the concealer first?

I don't have oily skin at all more towards the normal to dry end. So would I still need to blot?

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

BTW, Do any of you use finishing spray so the makeup stays in places especially in the summer when there's sweat?

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

Yes! I like urban decays spray I forgot what it's called all mightier spray or something. Mac's fix plus liquid smells really good but I think it's for refreshing your face not to make your makeup stay put. Btw I have used the urban decay one in Pakistan's scorching heat and makeup stays on.

As for blotting, if your face doesn't get oilly or shiny then don't blot. I usually blot a couple of hours after wearing makeup when my t-zone starts to get shiny. You can even purchase blotting paper by clean and clear.

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

I don't layer my makeup...so I spot conceal and then blend into my foundation.

I also don't use any sort of powder...so it stays in place.

There really is no hard or fast rule to this...I used to conceal over my base but I didn't like the look of it.

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

Reha, I’ve seen a lot of women online putting the concealer on first and then foundation so you aren’t the only one that does that. I’m just wondering how you do it and see if that is something I can try.

bisoux, I’m off to sephora to get a demo of the urban decay finishing spray just to see if it’s for me. Thanks the tips really help me. Through trial and error, i’m learning.

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

I used to do the concealer before foundation too, but I found that putting it after gives me more coverage and I don't run the risk of wiping the concealer off in the process of applying foundation. Of course it also depends on how much coverage you need.

Trial and error works best.

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

Moisturizer, primer, foundation, concealer, powder. I find that if you apply your concealer first, when you go over it with your foundation it tends to move. Also, after you've applied your foundation it's easier to see where you need to conceal and go over. If you have naturally flawless skin and like the 'dewy' look,.skip the powder. I personally like to powder my face, it gives me a smooth canvas to contour and highlight.

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

I use a concealer before and after foundation :P yes my dark circles are that bad :)

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

Moisturizer, primer, foundation, concealer. I never applied concealer before foundation however I will give it a try next time to notice the difference. My sister bought MAC finishing spray, she likes it, i never tried but whenever I get, i will go for Urban decay's one.

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

What powder do you use? Is your skin extra oily or you apply it to cover the oily areas?

Re: face lotion, primer, concealer then foundation or the other way around

I keep changing my powder, love MUFE's hd one these days. I've got normal skin, foundation does seperate and break down after a few hours so a powder helps keep my make-up in place. I also love the finish it provides.
