The only logical explanation that comes to mind is that over time culture shapes the way our brains work including personality and people with certain features are found in certain regions, such as brown eyes are usually found in Asians.
So its the effect of the culture in a particular region with those features, not the facial feature.

Here is something based on what i have learnt few years ago.
People with turned up or high nose are considered beautiful in West and people with sharp tip nose are considered beautiful in sub-continent.
Both communities have people with same types of noses but why the standards of beauty are different?
Maybe the reason behind these differing standards is, people of west want different qualities then people of east when it comes to choose a life partner, fellow or a friend. And might be those qualities are associated with facial features.
