Fabric and tailoring costs in Pakistan

It’s been long since I planned to put this up here because it is really uncomfortable to see how the vendors are conveniently blamed straight away to ‘rip-off’ the ones who shop online for desi outfits. I personally get disturbed at times when I am quoting someone for a simple outfit and usually give a breakdown on costs before she gets a heart attack.

here is a quick current rate list of ‘pure’ fabric that is used for making good quality formals:

pure dull chiffon= 290/yard (2.75 yards for a dupatta and 2.75 yards for a straight shirt with full sleeves, upto 48" long, 3.5 yards for A-lined+full sleeves, 6 yards minimum for an anarkali styled dress, could be upto 12 yards depending on flair, tail, etc)

pure 60 grams chiffon georgette: 380/yard

60 gms raw silk= 390/yard ( 2.5 yards for pants/shalwar, more for ijaars,etc)

80 gms raw silk= 520/yard

dyeing is 80-100rs per shade for every 2.5-2.75 yards fabric

lining is 80rs a yard for pakistani grip undyed

banarsi for finishings:

pure: 500-650 a yard ( 2 yards for a shirt/dupatta usually)
synthetic: 350-400/yard

stitching usually is 1200-1500 for a lined suit with fabric finishings on a dupatta ; 1500-2500rs for panelled/pleated,etc.

so,a plain outfit with banarsi pipings roughly costs around 5000rs to any vendor using pure fabric. I usually begin my calculations for any outfit from 5k because of the costs mentioned above and I really felt a need to put this up on a public forum to help consumers out before they plan on getting an outfit made instead of repeatedly blaming the vendors/homebased designers/FB groups for ripping anyone off coming their way :snooty:

Re: Fabric and tailoring costs in Pakistan

Re: the stitching costs, I can vouch for that....when i was there last october, most places did charge 1200-1500 for a regular suit with lining and proper finishing.

Re: Fabric and tailoring costs in Pakistan

100% Righto Proto…:biggthumb:

Re: Fabric and tailoring costs in Pakistan

I'm not saying any of you guys are wrong about the prices of stitching but it was shocking for me when I first heard these rates because where we're from in Pakistan, they charge around 300rps max!
Obviously the bigger the city, the higher the prices - so I do understand what you are saying :)

Re: Fabric and tailoring costs in Pakistan

i can vouch for protos prices, my mums in pakistan at the mo and she also said the material costs had gone through the roof and everything was very very expensive. Gone are the days you could get a formal suit for 6000 Rs!

Re: Fabric and tailoring costs in Pakistan

thanks proto for putting these prices up. It really helps when ur customers also understand the costs involved in the process of making a dress. Let me just add that these prices are atleast 40 % higher than what they were almost a year ago. The inflation rate in Pakistan is killing all sorts of industry here :( these rates are all gonna go only in one direction and that is definitely UP.

Re: Fabric and tailoring costs in Pakistan

totally agree with proto and she is my favorite with very reasonable prices...I yet have to encounter someone who could beat her prices...but not everyone is like her...if you look at every other FB group, they are simply exploiting the buyers like crazy !

Re: Fabric and tailoring costs in Pakistan

proto, I love ur prices. You are one of the few reasonable ones. I look at ur prices and say to myself wow thats reasonable and look at others who are ripping the customers off.

I know about the prices in pakistan, each time we get there and get a heart attack, we expect the same prices back then and they are not.

Re: Fabric and tailoring costs in Pakistan

i never work or deal with prototype but my friend deal with her and her suits very nice stitched , i think her price is reasonable,my suit stitched pk local Taylor and stitching charges is 300,to 800 but i can see difference easily,we have same print, but her suit look more stylish thats why i want to deal with prototype in future IA

Re: Fabric and tailoring costs in Pakistan

thanks a lot everyone for your trust and support  but this thread is solely meant to give an idea to everyone abroad about the state of prices on fabric/tailoring here in pakistan because I have lately felt that people who have not been to pakistan since few years dont have a clue about the current situation of inflation. we go to by fabric at one price now and the prices are up by 10-20rs per yard the following week. :bummer:

Re: Fabric and tailoring costs in Pakistan

Here are some costs on Karachi's side:

Pure crinkle chiffon (white carte) - 235 per yard
Pure crinkle chiffon (blue tag) - 290 per yard
Pure crinkle chiffon (orange carte) - 410 per yard
Pure Raw silk 80 grams (very inferior quality now available in the market) - Rs.420 per yard
Pure Dull silk Gilgit based (much better choice for pants than raw silk, but cannot be dyed to black) - Rs.450 per yard
Pure banarsi - Rs.350-1600 depending on how heavy the "jaal" is on the fabric
Mixed banarsi - Rs.200-400 per yard
crepe silk (preferably for lining) - Rs.100 per yard
Ka***** silk (thats what my supplier was calling it, also used for lining and isnt static at all) - Rs.100 per yard

Tailoring costs can go up to Rs.12000 as well depending on which tailor from which area of karachi you're using. Defence is the worst, they'll charge exorbitant prices for making even a simple suit. Raw silk here rises in price every week literally, and what I was selling for Rs.9000 last year I'm selling for Rs.13000 this year to make up for all the combined material cost increments. Hope the prices go down soon though, its killing the business big time!

Re: Fabric and tailoring costs in Pakistan

so true...the prices jus not killing the vendors even the clients....:(

Re: Fabric and tailoring costs in Pakistan

^ that is so true. however, it's one thing if you're in PK and another if you're buying online...the just/fair added service/commission charges of the FB vendors add to the brunt.

Re: Fabric and tailoring costs in Pakistan
