Can't we live with out these f 16. Their maintenance is so costly. Further these Americans keep some bug intentionally in the critical software part so u depend on them all the time

Pakistan let the letter of approval for the contract to expire. Now, I do remember that some unnamed sources mentioned that Pakistan might get them after all later in the summer. It could be the excess defense items that Pakistan is eligible for non-NATO ally status. I guess the only issue would be the structural stress as USAF would have flown them hard and I don't think a block 60 or 52 upgrade in Turkey addresses that.

I really don't understand the fascination PAF has with F16s. They're old tech, with new plug n play upgrades. PAF should adapt to the times, and make the new tech available to itself; it would be even better if PAF invested in improving the JF, and go about getting variants of it inducted into the service as needed.

The irony is that if there is any khat phat with india, america would embargo the F16 spare parts right away. After all, we were "allies" in the Cold War and it didn't stop US from "efforts to cease hostilities" even when India was officially aligned with USSR in 1971.
Now, there is a 12 jamat pass joke here as PAF still went to get Sabres in 1969 from iran / germany when they had been sanctioned once in 1965. The elitist officer class in Pakistan are really full of themselves but then, their idea of a war was 2 weeks which "shocked" the chinese when Pakistan went to get supplies from them in 1965.

PAF should then work to improve JF17 to an equivalent level, because like brother Doppleganger said relying on a platform that is vulnerable to changing geopolitical landscape is akin to signing an agreement to have the jets for show-sake without the freedom to use them as seen fit by PAF.
Self-Reliance is very important, and leads to improved relations with others when you're not constantly seeking aid in one form or another.
