The eyelid is a very thin piece of skin, and so face products shouldn’t get used on the lids. I looked up some DIY primers that people have made, and I’m not sure how well they work.
Any tricks to make the eyes pop and the color to show up more brighter? I have a number of eyeshadows that don’t show up or just look dull.
MAC paint pots. I’ve used them for YEARS and they have never failed me.
Painterly is a great neutral choice. Makeupalley has almost 1000 reviews on this. Its $21 and one pot should last you YEARS. I apply it using a brush but you can also use fingers.
As for shadows not showing up or looking dull…what brand are they? It might be a quality issue. I know I’ve tried shadows from Clinique and Lancome and the color payoff is horrible compared to MAC.
It depends on what you are using the primer for. If ‘pop’ then MAC paint pots or paint tubes in neutral shades will give you a blank canvas and some staying power. If you have oily lids and want your makeup to stay put for a long time, then something like UDPP. You can use foundation/concealer (with a setting powder) but only if you don’t really get oily.
Personally, I use Mac Paint (tube) in bare canvas all over the lid and bone which goes on really easily. UDPP is a bit harder to work as it dries so quickly; I dot and blend over the crease area only as this is where my lids become oily and eyeshadow would crease otherwise.
Also, whilst bases help colours show up, especially on desi eyelids, fallout is more due to cheap shadows. After getting product on your brush, tap it a few times before applying.
For eveIyday wear, I use the Naked Basics palette, which I’m really surprised people actually notice because it’s so neutral but I’ve been asked what I’m wearing on numerous occasions.
Try applying a creamy white painpot or a white/nude pencil crayon first before applying the eyeshadow. Helps cancel out dark areas, makes it one colour and acts as a primer where the shadows won’t crease.
You can also just use concealer on the eyelids before applying the shadows. Whatever works best.
I’ve started using Inglot duraline to make the eyeshadows vivid, really makes a difference and the eyeshadow DOES NOT BUDGE.
Like stoppit said, UDPP is good but I used to find that it dried quicker than I could apply eyeshadow on top.
Otherwise I’ve been using Smashbox primer which is decent, acts as a canvas and stops eyelids looking oily.
