Eyebrows

I need some info on Plucking Eyebrows…is it haraam?any reference?

I don’t pluck my eyebrows, but majority of my friends, relatives etc etc do - i feel left-out with uneven, bushy eyebrows…while others have lovely arcs and straight shapes.

at the same time…i heard from somewhere that Prophet(SAW) will curse those who do pluck them…

i haven’t ever touched them, but i feel like improving my look also..

…what shall i do???

If you can help, Plz reply ASAP.

If u r a guy, u r too image obsessed.

If u r a girl, then get em plucked ASAP.

I know its double stanrds, but we all know how it works out there, dont we!

Good question, i would like to know the answer of your question my self as my sister and mother do that sometime also.

i’m a girl (19) - seems strange to not follow the beauty trend in this society cuz looks are more important than personality!!! At the same time, gotta keep steer clear of many gunnah’s as possible…must try to stay on right path of sunnah.

Sis, looks are never more important than personality. NEVER!

A Good looking woman with a bad attitude / personality is ugly. An average looking woman with a good personality is beautiful.

Get it plucked. And than wear a Hijab.

Interesting --

But don't we alter Allah's creation by anything we do -- cutting nails, shaving, cutting hair, makeup, etc. Is that really all haram?

Question :

I know it is forbidden for a woman to remove hair from her eyebrows, but what about the rest of the face? Is it permissable for a woman to remove hair from the upperlip or other parts of the face? If the woman is especially hairy?.

Answer :

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:

It says in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah (17/133): “It is not permissible to remove the hair of the eyebrows because this is the namas (plucking) for which the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed those who do it, and it is a kind of changing the creation of Allaah, which is the action of the Shaytaan. If a woman’s husband tells her to do it, she should not obey him, because it is a sin, and there is no obedience to any created being if it involves disobedience towards the Creator. Rather obedience should only be with regard to things that are good and proper, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said.”

Secondly:

It is permissible to remove any hair from the face apart from the hair of the eyebrows.

It says in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah (17/130): “The evidence that it is permissible for a woman to remove hair from her body is the basic principle which states that it required for her to adorn herself for her husband. There is no evidence to suggest that this is not allowed, apart from the prohibition on al-namas (plucking), which means removing hair from the eyebrows.”

And it also says (5/197): “What is the Islamic ruling on removing hair that grows between the eyebrows? The Committee replied: It is permissible to pluck it, because it is not part of the eyebrows.”

And Allaah knows best.

Question :

Is it allowed to put lipstick only for your husband. Some say that lipstick contains pig fat. Is it true? In such a case are we allowed to apply lipstick? Please advise.

Answer :

Praise be to Allaah.

The basic principle is that anything that is used for adornment and beautification is permissible. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“He it is Who created for you all that is on earth”

[al-Baqarah 2:29]

That may be mustahabb if the intention is to beautify yourself for your husband, because this is something that is prescribed in sharee’ah.

But this is subject to the condition that nothing haraam is involved, such as adorning yourself for non-mahram men to whom it is not permissible to show your beauty. It is also subject to the condition that it does not contain any substance that may harm the body or that is impure such as pig fat. In that case it is haraam, because we are forbidden to do things that will harm us, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “there should be no harming or reciprocating harm.”

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said:

There is nothing wrong with using lipstick because the basic principle is that things are permissible until it is made clear that they are haraam… But if it becomes clear that it is harmful to the lips, that it dries them out and makes them lose their moisture, then in this case it is not allowed. I have been told that it may cause the lips crack. If that is proven then we are forbidden to do things that harm us.

Fataawa Manaar al-Islam, 3/831

Dr Wajeeh Zayn al-‘Aabideen wrote an article in al-Wa’i al-Islami magazine about the harm that the cosmetics which are widely used by women nowadays may cause. In this article he said:

Lipstick may cause swelling of the lips or drying and cracking of the thin skin of the lips, because it removes the protective layer of the lips.

Quoted from Zeenat al-Mar’ah al-Muslimah by Shaykh ‘Abd-Allaah al-Fawzaan, p. 51

So Muslim women should make sure, before using any of the commonly-used cosmetics, that it will not cause any damage to her body.

And Allaah knows best.

Question :

Is it allowed in Islam to say one prayers with Nail-color on ?.

Answer :

Praise be to Allaah.

It is permissible for a woman to colour her nails for the purpose of adornment, with materials that do not cause harm, and there is nothing wrong with her praying with that, unless it is a substance that prevents water from reaching what is beneath it, in which case wudoo’ and ghusl are not valid unless it is removed. If the wudoo’ is not valid then the prayer is not valid.

It says in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 5/218:

“If the colour is impermeable, then wudoo’ is not valid unless it is removed before doing wudoo’. If it is not impermeable, then wudoo’ is valid, as is the case with henna.”

And Allaah knows best.

Thanks Very much for the info…

So ‘Plucking Eyebrows IS Haraam’… :smack2:

It is prohibited for a female to cut or trim her eyebrows or middle eyebrows. Rasulullah :saw: cursed such a woman. (Bukhari)

*Mullah Ali Qari (R.A) has commentated that plucking of the facial hair is haraam (prohibited) for a woman with the exception of moustache or beard hairs, if any woman is unfortunate enough to be troubled by these. (Mirqaat Vol.8 Pg.295; Ashrafiyyah).

However, if the eyebrows have become so dense that it is unseemly for a woman and incites abhorrence in her husband, it is permissible to trim it to a more appropriate and normal size. (Ahsanul Fataawa Vol.8 pg.76; Zakariyya Book Depot) *
