eye/skin care routine help - hitting 30s

hey girls who are in their 30s (or soon to be!)

what is your eye/skin care routine?

i have combo skin and an occasional breakout, but i’ve noticed now that my skin is starting to look more dry and wrinkly- specifically around the eye area.
it becomes even more prominent when i’m wearing concealer/foundation and i feel i look like an old lady :/.

my skincare/makeup routine is very minimal…

cetaphil face wash in the morning, oil of olay moisturizer and light makeup.

oil of olay, clarisonic or peter thomas roth facewash in the evening with my clarisonic brush

sometimes i will use dermalogica multivitamin power firm around my eyes before bedtime.

can you please recommend good (ie- tried and tested) products to use to keep skin glowy and supple so that transitioning into our 30s isnt so bad? should i use some cream/moisturizer at bedtime on a daily basis? what about eye cream? will vaseline or castor oil or any other oil work just as well?

thanks in advance!

Looking at your routine, you're not using any products that's actually aids in anti-aging. Dermalogica multivitamin power firm: Have you actually seen any results from this? I looked up their ingredients on their site and to be brutally honest, it sounds like a waste of money. For almost $50, retinol is listed at the very end of the ingredient list! This tells me that the amount on it is too little to do any real good. Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid) is also listed near the end.

I'd recommend you get your hands on Retin A (try Alldaychemist.com if you want to buy it cheap). Start at .025% cream. This is the only thing that's actually been proven to get rid of/prevent fine lines/wrinkles (and yes, I use this around my eye area too). The concept of needing something separate for the eye area doesn't make much sense to me. Yes many products on the market list retinol as an ingredient and charge a price for it. But I see no need to pay that amount when I can get straight Retin A cheaper.

Also look into incorporating products with glycolic acid (maybe peels?) and Vitamin C into your routine. Vitamin C serums tend to be expensive but if you look searches online, there are TONS of DIY recipes that're MUCH cheaper.

Start wearing sunscreen diligently....even on cloudy days. Currently I'm using Argan oil as a moisturizer (for entire face) but there are others out there such as Rosehp, avacado etc. that're good too. I don't use any other creams or lotions.

You use the clarisonic brush every day? Why? That would be way too harsh for my skin. Actually, using cleansers or any face wash every single day would be too harsh/drying for my skin (and you're using the 2x/day). In the morning, I only splash my face with cold water. And the ONLY time I use a cleanser is when I'm wearing make-up. I do keep a toner in the house and use it only if my skin feels SUPER oily or greasy (which doen't happen much these days).

If you do board searches on Retin A, Glycolic Acid etc. you'll find TONS of info.

Hope this helps. :)

On a side note: If you wear foundation/concealor on your face daily, you may want to reduce that drastically. I use to wear make-up daily in my early-mid 20's. Around 26, I reduced the amount to 1-2x/week and after a few months, noticed a major improvement on acne and overall look of the skin. These days I wear make-up (ie. foundation/powder) 2-3x/month.

I strongly believe that along with the ingredients I mentioned above, the severe reduction in my foundation/powder use contributed to my current results. Even with all the products above, these days if I wear make-up 3-4 days in a row due to desi weddings or other reasons, I notice my skin looking extra dry/dull. Just a thought. You may want to experiment with this for a few months to see if it makes a difference with you.
