eye sight

Re: eye sight

I also went for eye surgery (PKR) but after taking innitial tests they told me that my eyes are not suitable for this kind of surgery as the thickness of cornea is not sufficient.
i realy want to get rid from my glasses/ lenses now i m thinking to repeat my tests for another kind of surgery (lasik).
i want to ask if any body help that lasik also require the same tests as for pkr?
can any body who is not suitable for pkr could have lasik whith no risk?

Re: eye sight

It took an HOUR for your Lasik?! Like you were inside the OR for the entire hour?!

Yikes @ your recovery! They didn’t give you goggles to wear at night? Did they specifically tell you not to watch ANY TV/read etc. and stay in bed?

Sorry…I’m just shocked at how different your recovery time was compared to mine…although I do realize it’s different for everyone. My doctor gave me goggles to wear at night so I wouldn’t rub my eyes accidently. I still watched TV during those 2 weeks but only for like an hour. Still used my phone like usual (but then again I’m not a huge texter/chatter etc.). I had my surgery on a Thursday…stayed home Friday/Saturday/Sunday but went back to work on Monday. Still drove and did all my other errands like grocery shopping as usual…I just made sure I always had my sunglasses on outside so dust wouldn’t get in. I still went to the gym but didn’t do much other than light cardio (elliptical, bike etc.) and streatching.

Re: eye sight

I was inside the operation theater for an hour, they checked my eyes, putted some drop , told me to wait then they putted other drops. The actual surgery took 10 to 15 minutes.

They did give me goggles, without them it would have been hard but still my mum stayed to look after me for two nights because she though I might rub my eyes in sleep. They told me avoid watching tele and using computer for few days but my mum took my laptop away lol cz i would have used it for long hours. My mum told me to avoid watching tele and using laptop because the more you stay away from these things the better eye sight you will get as it is not good to watch tele ,use laptop or phone when your surgery is freshly done. I myself didn’t want to use phone much, wanted to take full rest.

Re: eye sight

^ Ah ok. Makes more sense now lol (especially about the 1 hour surgery time). They checked my eyes and did the drops too but had me waiting in a separate waiting area for that. I was only in the OR for like 10 minutes.

Re: eye sight

I got Lasik done about 4-5 years ago (lasik in one eye and PRK in the other). Procedure went fine, didn't use eye makeup for 2 weeks afterwards, no exercise either. I always had dry eyes and still have em. Lasik eye was pain free, some irritation in PRK eye that lasted for a couple days if I remember this correctly. Procedure itself was pain free in fact I don't even remember anything from it since they gave me valium prior to it. The place I went to actually allowed your family to sit in front of a monitor where they could actually watch the whole prodecude, so husband got to see it all (yes he has stories to tell).

Re: eye sight

Re: eye sight

You should consult Ophthalmologists and get immediate treatment. There are so many eye hospitals which provide free eye treatment to underprivileged people. You can get cataract surgery and laser eye surgery from any charity hospital.

Re: eye sight

Good eye health starts with the food on your plate. Nutriens like omega-3 fatty acids, lutien zinc, and Vitamin C and E might help ward off age-related vision problems likemaculer degeneration and cataracts To get them, fill your plate with:

  • Green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, and collards
  • Salmon, tuna, and other oily fish
  • Eggs, nuts, beans, and other nonmeat protein sources
  • Oranges and other citrus fruits or juices
  • Oysters and pork

A well Balanced-diet also helps you stay at a Healhty weight That lowers your odds of obesity and related diseases like type to diabiets, which is the leading cause of blindness in adults.
2. Quit SmokingIt makes you more likely to get cataracts damage to your optic nerve, and macular degenerations If you’ve tried to kick the habit before only to start again, keep at it. The more times you try to quit, the more likely you are to succeed. Ask your doctor for help.
3. Wear SunglassesThe right pair of shades will help protect your ey fesrom the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. Too much UV exposure boosts your chances of cataracts and macular degeneration.
Choose a pair that blocks 99% to 100% of UVA and UVB rays. Wraparound lenses help protect your eyes from the side. Polarized lenses reduce glare while you drive.
If you wear contact lenes, some offer UV protection. It’s still a good idea to wear sunglasses for an extra layer.
4. Use Safety EyewearIf you use hazardous or airborne materials on the job or at home, wear safety glasses or protective goggles.
Sports like ice hockey, racquetball, and lacrosse can also lead to eye injury. Wear eye protection. Helmets with protective face masks or sports goggles with polycarbonate lenses will shield your eyes.

  1. Look Away From the Computer ScreenStaring at a computer or phone screen for too long can cause:
  • Eyestrain
  • Blurry vision
  • Trouble focusing at a distance
  • dry eyes
  • headaches
  • Neck, back, and shoulder Pain

To protect your eyes:

  • Make sure your glasses or contacts prescription is up to date and good for looking at a computer screen.
  • If your eye strain won’t go away, talk to your doctor about computer glasses.
  • Move the screen so your eyes are level with the top of the monitor. That lets you look slightly down at the screen.
  • Try to avoid glare from windows and lights. Use an anti-glare screen if needed.
  • Choose a comfortable, supportive chair. Position it so that your feet are flat on the floor.
  • If your eyes are dry, blink more.
  • Rest your eyes every 20 minutes. Look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Get up at least every 2 hours and take a 15-minute break.

Re: eye sight

We generally advise only having it done if your prescription has been stable for 3 years.
As others have mentioned you will need a consultation with an eye specialist; factors like dry eye, corneal thickness etc can affect your suitability for the procedure.
Generally the success rate is good however you can become more prone to dry eyes after.. and sometimes a few years later you may need specs again. From my experience patients with prescriptions over -3.00DS tend to benefit the most.
