Which ones do the majority of you use?
Re: Eye shadow primers!
Urban decay
^ same...urban decay
Re: Eye shadow primers!
Urban Decay's is the most popular. An alternative, inexpensive way is to wet your brush and apply some eyeshadow or loose pigments like that, the color shows up super vibrant, and you don't even need a primer! You can also use a creamy shade stick or cream eyeshadow on the eye then apply other eyeshadows and the tackiness from the cream shadow will help the powdery eyeshadow to adhere.
Re: Eye shadow primers!
I use the touch base primer by Clinique in Canvas Light...as well as Bronzed Twig by Bare Minerals. I looked at Rubanesque by Mac today...it's pretty, but I didn't buy it.
Re: Eye shadow primers!
Ive got the benefit 'stay, don't stray' primer because i loved the peachy colour of it. I use it even without eyeshadow just to keep the liner to stay. Hoeever considering the price and its lack of not being able to last, i wouldnt recommend it nor repurchase it. I think im going to get the urban decay one next time!
Re: Eye shadow primers!
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Re: Eye shadow primers!
Three people for Urban Decay…![]()
One for Clinique, one for Benefit and one for Too Faced.
I have actually used Rubanesque…its a beautiful color.
Re: Eye shadow primers!
I also have Two Faced, but if I were to choose out of the two I would choose Urban Decay. Two-faced applies a lot better (smoother) however doesn’t last as long as Urban Decay. I didn’t like Urban Decay’s primer packeging (genie bottle) however it comes in a normal tube now so all is well.
Re: Eye shadow primers!
I use MAC Paint Pots. Painterly is my "neutral" color. But I also have Rubenesque, Moss Scape, Fresco Rose, Delft, Blackground etc....
For me personally, I found UD too drying for my lids.
Re: Eye shadow primers!
That's another issue for me ^
I need something that is hydrating BUT at the same time gives a clean canvas with no mess.
Urban decay. Love it. Purchased it couple of times. Its my holy grail item
Re: Eye shadow primers!
I first use Paint Paint (in bare canvas) all over my lid and brow bone. I like that it's a cream but goes on dry it's a great base for shadows. I then use UDPP just dotted on my crease and patted around with my finger as it's just that area that I have a problem with shadows coming off.
I would never use UDPP on its own.

Yea I tried UDPP almost 4 years ago so not sure if the formula has changed somehow. But I remember when I tried it, I found it too drying and it was hard for me to blend the shadows/pigments on top. That's when I started using MAC Paint Pots. Painterly is my daily color but I have 7 other colors that I like to play with too. My shadows/pigments last me 14+ hours easily (all my shadows/pigments are MAC too).
But then again UDPP works great on other people.
You may want to just give both a try. I know at least at the Sephora, and MAC stores/counters near me...I don't have any problems getting samples. I'd give both a try and see what suits you best. :)
Re: Eye shadow primers!
I use so many of them.. not at once though but my favourites are MAC Painterly Paintpot, Urban Decay, NYX HD Eye Primer and the newest one I'm really liking right now is Tarte Lifted Natural Eye primer. I got it with a tarte palette and it actually keeps my eyeshadow looking the best all day... I find sometimes UD creases or the colours change during the day.
Re: Eye shadow primers!
I have UDPP and I love it (the ones in the tube are the ones with the better formula. The ones that come in the squeeze tubes don't work the same for so many people any more. I'm not sure why). I was going to get the NARS Smudge-proof one which all the blogs and everyone is raving about but I found a backup UDPP so I'm going to use it up before I buy that but I HIGHLY rec. that. It's not drying and it works way better for most people than the UDPP/TFSI.
I also use Painterly PP by MAC but not as a crease-resisting primer but more of an even base. It matches my skin perfectly so if I'm just doing simple liner. I use Painterly, apply a wash of Brule eyeshadow and apply my liner.
Anyways, def. look into the NARS one. It's for $24 and has amazing reviews, esp. on Makeupalley
Re: Eye shadow primers!
I think I'll make a trip to Sephora to pick up some samples before I buy a primer.
MAC's Rubanesque is a shimmery base...is UD also shimmery? What about NARS?
Re: Eye shadow primers!
^UDPP is clear (no shimmer) but they have Sin and Eden which are colored. MAC's Painterly paint pot is also matte. NARS is also clear like UDPP but waaaay better.
Re: Eye shadow primers!
I used Nyx's shadow base as well, the skin toned one. It's great for shadows because it has a slight stickyness to it, but it does nothing for my oily lids, so now I only use it when I have some other kind of base on my lids in the first place.
I've also heard a lot about Fyrinne's Pixie Epoxy (sp?), which isn't meant to be a primer, but more of a base, and it's supposed to be a lot more affordable than UDPP or even Two-Faced.
