Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

Any pointers?
Half the time it feels like it’s pointless since it can’t be seen.

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

I have the same dilemma There are heaps of ladies on youtube that do tutorials for this, but they alredy have big beautiful eyes and expert skills to start with.

my glasses just make my eyes look even smaller , and if im wearing mascara it hits the lenses:(

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

^Oh I know, no mascara for me when I have glasses on! I wear my glasses 99% of the time and when I do my eye makeup consists of winged eyeliner. Sometimes I line the lower lashline half way also, but that's basically it.

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

^ same here.....except no winged liner.....just liner on the bottom.
I'll give the winged liner a try but I'm getting pretty sick of wearing glasses all the time now.
Next month I'm going back to the optician and getting my eyes re-checked and new contacts ordered.

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

I think we glasses wearers can be a bit more experimental with eye make-up and can use slightly brighter colours also without looking like clowns! Lighter pigmented eyeshadow will stand out more, different coloured eyeliner also looks lovely but I've heard that eyeliner on the lower lid should not be too heavy as it can make eyes look tired under glasses. Tidy eyebrows are also a must when wearing glasses. I love my glasses but only wear full on eye makeup on formal occasions/ weddings etc when I wear contacts.

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

I know me too, unfortunately for me contacts give me migraines so I only put up with them on special occasions. That's why I don't do eye makeup anymore, because i'm always wearing glasses :/ Definitely give the winged eyeliner a try, since we have glasses on, we can pull off a thicker dramatic eyeliner

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

Hmm, I guess it depends on your prescription i.e. lenses for short-sighted people will make eyes appear smaller, and lenses for long-sighted people will make eyes appear bigger. But, here are a few tips for the short-sighted:

  1. Try to avoid dark eyeshadow. Wear a light eyeshadow in the inner corners of each eye.

  2. Line the lower lashline with white eyeliner.

  3. Avoid shimmery products.

  4. Use a light-reflecting concealer under the eyes.

  5. Keep eyebrows nicely groomed and not too thick.

Overall, just make sure that the makeup is natural and not too over-powering.

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

I can't deal with contacts anymore so the most eye makeup I wear is eyeliner on lower lash line. Dark and filled in eyebrows also frame your face nicely.

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

Girls that wear glasses can wear darker, bolder lips! Lighter colors on the entire lid, and tear-duct will really give the illusion of wide-awake and 'open' eyes. Don't use a dark color in the crease or 'outer-v' and keep it simple with just a color wash and eyeliner!

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

I remember Bobbi Brown had an eyeshadow pallette that had the model wearing glasses in its advert…let me find the video…

I think it also depends on what type of frames you have, with the Bobbi Brown example the model had HUGE frames which give a big “window” to show off her eyes, whereas with someone wearing smaller frames the impact probably wouldn’t be as strong.

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

I only wear contact lenses for special occasions for the last 5 years but I didn't change the way I do my eyemakeup. It's always been quite neutral one for regular days and I save the eyeshadow looks for when I'm wearing contact lenses. I do a light shimmery wash over my lid and browbone and winged topliner and line the lower waterline and lashline plus mascara. It's always visible through my glasses in photographs and people do notice when I change the liner colour... so I don't agree it can't be seen. Plus, the liner and mascara do change the way my eyes look (more 'awake' and elongated) in the same way as if I wasn't wearing glasses... so it's more about this than if anyone can see it.

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

my eyelashes are pretty long so every time i wear my glasses i can feel them sweeping against the glass. putting mascara on would possibly crush them. sometimes i want to put on eyeliner to enhance my eyes but even that can't be seen, so no point :(

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

^ It can be seeeeeeeeeen, wear it wear it wear it!

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

Get laser eye treatment done and throw your glasses away that's what I did. ;)

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

I was going to do that but left it for a long while. Now I am short-sighted but when I wear my glasses I have trouble reading. I need to remove my glasses to read comfortably......so if I do have my distance vision corrected permanently then I will need to use reading glasses and that's not something I'm ready to do just yet.

I have a pair of bifocal contact lenses for trial and they seem to be okay for me. That's what I'm thinking of going for.

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

I don't wear glasses - contacts.

But I did wear glasses for a bit and even then...I wore eye makeup! Its still fun but no mascara or just a really light coat if anything.

Re: Eye Make-Up for Gals with Glasses

i wear glasses. i have the rectangular ones with the clear casing. i just apply surma and then some golden eye shadow and eyeliner, with the inside corners of the eyes lined in white. it pops your eyes.

I have rectangle frames too and if I plan on wearing makeup that day I will because makeup can still be seen. I thought I was buying thicker frames so I could get away with not having to do makeup all the time and not looking so tired but that still doesn't work, my glasses still look better when I wear makeup with them. Sometimes I do just my coverup routine, light eyeshadow to brighten my eyes and simetimes mascara. If I feel like heavier makeup I do light eye liner too
