Re: Eye for an eye
gypsy, 1) its not revenge, its justice. 2) you can take Gandhi's word over Allah, but let us go with our faith, plus it does give us the option of forgiveness.

Well you call Justice, when you guys believe in Allah word, why don’t you believe in his outcomes, why do you take “Justice” in your hand. Go on and wait for your judgment day.
When you have only two options, you might as well go with one to justify,( if successful) if not you will go to haven after death and you will have full befits package. !!!!
Re: Eye for an eye
^ Come again....How did you reach the conclusion that we do not believe in his outcomes? if a person is proven guilty of comitting a crime and is punished, does that mean that we are taking justice in our own hands? No sir, did you even bother to read and understand the meaning of the ayath? Like I said, you can believe in what ever you want and leave us to our faith.
Re: Eye for an eye
it certainly is vengeance from the perspective of the aggrieved party. which is why most criminal cases are brought to court by the victim, and why courts drop charges if they’re dropped by the victim. I doubt most people are thinking of deterrance and social betterment, when they file complaints in the court.
that said, I dont know what the motive behind Allah’s “eye for an eye” is. i lean towards deterrance as the goal, and justified vengeance and satisfaction/closure for the victimn as a healthy byproduct.
