Extremely Sensitive Skin

So my little nephew is such a “chu’ee mu’ee ka phool” (I believe that translates to “touch me not” flower).

You can look at him wrong and his cheeks will break out in a rash on his cheeks and chin.

If the temperature in the room is greater than 22 degrees his entire body will break out garmi daanay and turn bright red.

You leave a diaper on him for longer than 30 seconds after he has soiled it and he will break out in a painful rash that leaves him wailing as if you are pulling his nails out with a pair of pliers.

You don’t put a milk bottle in his mouth the second that he wakes up for his feeding and he will cry like you are putting him through Chinese water torture.

It’s driving my sister crazy since her first little guy was absolutely no work at all.

Help please!

She has already tried the following:

  • no more kisses/touching on the face
  • no more full length outfits with feet/socks
  • changed to using water to wash and only sensitive skin wipes when necessary
  • using vaseline to coat his bum and protect from soiled diaper
  • using baby powder to sooth and keep skin fresh
  • doctor has advised against medicated rash creams/ointments as he is under 3 months old still.

Re: Extremely Sensitive Skin

for nappy rash or to prevent it... use baby oil instead of vaseline... we were told its a myth that vaseline is good .. its not if you have senstitive skin... its a warm mixture and when has no soothing qualities.. im talking about the petroleum jelly.

my son has never suffered from a rash in his entire 1 yr on this planet even though he has sensitive skin and i believe its the oil. i put it on at every diaper change and yes i do wash him more than i wipe him.

tell her to wash his clothing and his bedsheets in scent free detergent especially made for ppl with allergies or for ppl with sensitive skin.... my son gets dry skin if his clothing is washed in ariel or tide which left me quite surprised. washing it in the said detergent keeps his skin smooth!

the milk thing was hell for me too.. the thermos wasnt working for me cuz by the time i had the milk measured and shaken, he was already upset and very uch awake! so i bought a bottle heater... which is quit commonly sold at every babystore or dept store, pharmacy. so i would just measure out the amount he would drink at night, (just water), pop it into the bottle warmer and turn it on before going to bed... i woudl also measure out scoops for each single feed in a dispenser. so when he would wake up at night, i had the water measured, just add the milk, shake and shove it in his mouth beore he had the chance to go into full fledged matam mode.

my son cant wear full suits either cuz he gets insanely warm very fast... even in winter, heating is off in his room and i only put one layer on him with a thin duvet over him... else his cheeks start to crack. what works for that is locobase... awesome stuff.. just dab on the cheeks during winter season or during summer when cheeks get their driest.

its really hard with such demanding babies.. add light sleeper to it and my life is peachy!

good luck to your sis ... atleast jannat tho hai na pairo mein!

Re: Extremely Sensitive Skin

oh and if he still gets rashes, zinc nappy rash cream is great.. i dont know why the doc has said no to rash creams.. cuz we use it from birth here. without any problems

powders a huge no no from what ive read cuz it irritates teh skin further. they arent so big in dk.

Re: Extremely Sensitive Skin

For rashes, my mom and nand told me to mix sarson ka tail with water and whip till it turns a creamy consistency and use that. I have never tried it since polyfax worked better for us but your sister might be able to use a natural source if the doc doesnt want her to use rash creams?

Re: Extremely Sensitive Skin

Has your sister seen a doctor - my cousin was like that and it turned out her had really bad eczema

Re: Extremely Sensitive Skin

buy those diaper rash creams. they r good. leave him naked for shorter periods throughout the day. don't use wipes at all. use water only to wash his bottom. his bottom should be completely dry b4 putting diaper on. use no oil, no vaseline, no powder.
1. keep milk ready b4 he wakes up. (prepare while he's sleeping n keep it nearby)
2. keep a fan or vaporiser on while he's sleeping.
3. kids mostly pee/poo within 15 mins after feeding. so using a rough estimate change him often. use pamper dry ( i hope they hav those for newborns too). they r best among all diapers.

he might get better as he grows up.

PS: I use Spectro EczemaCare for my daughter as soon as she develops any kind of rash (eczema or not) n i like it better than other products). its irritant n cortisone free n available @ safeway/coop

Re: Extremely Sensitive Skin

thanks all for the advice.
I will ask her to log on and read this.

the vaseline comments are true...I never found it to do anything really......even though our family thinks its the equivalent of Windex amongst the Greeks.

baby oil has not worked either.....she tried using it.

isn't sarson ka oil "garam"?

Re: Extremely Sensitive Skin

My phuppoo used to swear by this sarson ka tail thing when her kids were younger...I think she used to just apply the oil directly, without whipping it with water....
even if it 'garam'...I don't think topical application will do any harm...but I am not sure...

Re: Extremely Sensitive Skin

i don't think mustard oil is garam but y use it in this hot weather? i say let his skin breathe and use mositurizer only if skin is real dry.

Re: Extremely Sensitive Skin

^ that's what my sister does.....leave him exposed......does make a mess but at least the rash heals.....
