i think i NOW need serious help.. for the past 2 weeks ive been keeping up with this drying condition to my lips. ive been goin to bed w/ everything from vaseline to butter to olive oil… n NOTHING helps! my lips feel smooth to the touch but theyve this abraded sensation to them which makes me want to lick them (however gross this may sound) incessantly… any amounts of lip balms that ive been doting on is not helping… i dont know wats wrong, it’s never happened before.. and i find solace only if i just hold them pressed 24/7…
please help… or should i just go see my family doctor.. ? any derms here?? i havnt even modified my usual diet or anything..
you may have a iron, zinc or b vitamin deficiency. try eating fruits and vegetables and take a multivitamin for a long term cure. also,
you can get a product called Lansinoh at all targets and most drugstores. It's in the baby care section and it's used for treating cracked or sore nipples while breastfeeding. No area can be more sensitive than that! Anyway one tube will last you forever and you can use it for a ton of different stuff (cuticles, elbows, cuts...) however, it's ultrapurified lanolin, which is totally different than the lanolin you find in cosmetics, but if you know you are allergic proceed with caution, ALSO It's pricey and may be hard to get but Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm works wonders I think it's because of the honey, so maybe the Neutrogena lip balm in a pot w/honey might be an alternative? (Haven't personally tried the Neutrogena.) and i've heard good things of Dr. Hauschka Lip Care Stick.
ok pakifairy... thanks so much! ill hit shoppers tonite in a bit, hopefully i can get my hands on these things u recommended.. n i believe theyre not all prescription..?? as for the vitamins, i started on vitamin b n i got a very bad skin reaction to it so i trashed the bottle! hopefully this gets better.. or ill have to see my doc anyways! but thank you :)
Have you tried any new lip products recently? It might be an allergy to some lip product. Cuz I've had something similar a few months ago, where they felt smooth on touch, but the sensation was weird. It took at least a couple of weeks to get my lips back to normal and I was also dabbing on copious amounts of vaseline and lip balms etc.
Are you having any other symptoms? Like dry mouth, dry throat, dry itchy eyes? Any recent sicknesses/illnesses?
thank you everyone for ur feedback.... no, nothing else is really wrong with the rest of my anatomy! i STILL haven't gone down to the drugstore.. i did however speak to a friend's husband who's a pharmacist.. he suggested a few things which are over the counter.. and last night i just put on pure glycerine. it ws ok.. but it just gets back to square one once it rubs off :)
inshAllah tonite or tomorrow, ill be goin to the drugstore. thanks everyone!
My sister had it recently and she used aveeno chapstick. that was after she had been using butter on her lips for 3-4 days. after that it went away in a couple of days.
Apart from chap sticks, vaseline, petroleum jelly etc, here are few other aspects which people tend to ignore, which interestingly can also lead to chapped lips;
Dieting:-
It leads to deficiency of certain vitamins and amino acids essential for the health of Skin, e.g, Vit A, D, C, Zinc etc. So please avoid too much dieting (if you are). Plus you may try certain Vitamins viz Surbex-Z, Centrum etc.
Low intake of Water
It leads to brittleness/dryness of skin plus lips. At times only ample water intake can solve the problem.
Licking/moistening by tongue
The saliva in our mouth can change the surface tension of the delicate skin of lips. So excessive licking in case of dryness gives a transient relief but actually increases it afterwards.
Allergy to certain brands of Lipsticks.
Certain ladies are allergic to certain lipsticks etc but are unaware of this fact. At times only by avoiding the use of a specific lipstick can solve the problem.
thank you all , and thank you dr. sufi. i saw my doctor the past week... he suggested multi-vitamins... he did some bloodwork and apparently there were some deficiencies and some other stuff that was messed up... hopefully this thing gets better soon inshAllah.
Wheneva i have chapped lips i apply that Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream and in the morning my lips r fine. Its really thick and feels icky when u put it on but its great and it works.
