At least 16 people including three children were killed while more than 32 sustained injuries in an explosion in the Badaber area near Peshawar, ARY News reported on Sunday.
According to police official, the blast targeted a security convoy. The explosion was followed by an exchange of fire between security officers and armed assailants.
The explosion caused panic and harrasment in the area. The blast damaged many vehicles and shops in the area. Frontier Corps vehicles rushed to the scene to help after the attack, as a police officer collected evidence from the crater caused by the bomb.
No one has claimed responsibility but suspicion will likely fall on the Pakistani Taliban. The group has been waging a bloody insurgency against the government for years that has killed thousands of security personnel and civilians.
Police have cordoned off the area and started search operation, while injured people were taken to Lady Reading Hospital.
The injured include security officers, women and children.
We must remember some of KPK bombing could be politically driven from people other than TTP types.
In any case, security should be first agenda item of PTI govt. They may want to start scanning all incoming to peshawar then expand the perimeter slowly until the cover more areas.
Why not use the same DRONE technology for over head security. The cost to operator drones for checking should be way low than paying for more army rangers. Befriend the technology not the creators.
Security issue is there, but somehow attributing everything to the drones is getting boring now.
Drones are turning the few friendly/docile people left in FATA into terrorists as well. We need to make sure these folks remain on our side, otherwise, if we cant get the support of the locals, the fight against terrorism in FATA will be a lost cause.
For now, we have yet to see any major security move by the current govt in terms of local law enforcement and safety, so they have their work cut out for them.
Dnt knw wat to say anymore. Everyday so many innocent people die in Pakistan, the devastated families they leave behind and others are injured, maimed for life
