Suicide bomber rocks Islamabad airport
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) – A suicide bomber detonated his explosives in a parking area outside Islamabad’s airport Tuesday after he was stopped by security as he tried to enter the airport, police sources told CNN.
Ambulances took five injured people to hospitals.
Interior Minister Aftab Khan Sherpao said two police officers were wounded, one seriously, The Associated Press reported.
Police said they had made one arrest.
The airport was closed and the area was cordoned off.

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - A suicide bomber set off explosives in the car park at the airport of the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, on Tuesday after being challenged by police and three people were wounded, police said.
“It was a suicide bombing. Our men spotted him … the bomber then fired at our men and blew himself up,” an airport security officer said. The bomber was killed, police said.

My dad told me that there were three bombers, and two of them are in serious condition one of them is dead...

Imagine how many lives those vigilant security officers saved!
I fervently pray that the injured bombers survive.... so that ISI can subject them to rigourous interrogation to find out who sent them.

Another failed suicide bombing. It seems the government's anti-terroriism and stringent security drive is working, and we at least are winning the war against the terrorists.

Luckily those hurt were the terrorsits themselves... In which case I think they got what they deserved...

The first check post, where you take a left turn to get into the airport isnt strict, they dont stop anyone from getting there. However, the ordinary civilian/taxi parking, they do (or used to) do a minimal check up of the car, and I believe thats where that guy blew himself up.
Security in Islamabad airport is tight, but not fool proof. It is very easy to get into the VIP parking lot, all you need is a very good car, and make up some good name... Trust me, even I got through alot of times in my bachpan claiming to be Brig. Shadman's (a figment of my imagination) son. You can even use that to get into the chaklala residential scheme (right next to the airport). But then again, that part of the airbase is used by civilians and its not feasible to stop every single soul going in and out. However, its a scary thought, since its right next to the airport.
Also, this airport might be called the ISlamabad international airport, but its actually located in Pindi, and in a rather populated section of the city. Now they have cut down all the trees etc around the fence and put up posts there (after that bomb explosion following 9/11 back in 2002) just so that no one does anything to the planes on the run way.
The new airport will be in the outskirts and will be less prone to such attacks.
