Ok here is the situation, someone please give me some advice or tell me the legal perspective.
I am a Canadian Pakistani, living in the states with a green card.
I am going to pakistan next week thru Dubai.
My canadian passport is expired but i do have my citizen ship card from canada.
I will be taking my pakistani passport on this trip.
Do i need to get a visa for UAE even tho i am a cdn citizen?
I leave in a few days and just realized that my passport is expired! 
please help

it's better to take your canadian visa to UAE. granted you have your citizenship card, but they will have give you a visa, and if they see your pakistani passport, the customs at the airport will charge for the visa. you can get your passport renewed within a few days if you show them your ticket.

How much is a few days? Fill out the forms online and drop them off. It takes about a week to process normally, I dont know what they'll do if you say you've got a flight to catch.

They have faster service (1day? i think) for CDN passport to be issued (provided everything is in order). Extra charges for that though. Check CDN passport website for that. They actually ask you to fill everything online and take rest of documentation in the office (different / faster line for online applications).
Their normal time is 7 days to re-new passport.
Dubai gives free visa to CDN passport holder on the spot (don't show Paki, unless they specifically ask you). Ask a travel agent , if you HAVE TO go on expired CDN passport.
If I have to make a guess - i think your passport will still work in dubai (take your citizen ship card with you as well)

Dubai Immigration doesnt care about ur Canadian citizenship card. If u dont have a valid Canadian passport, you will be asked for 55 US$ visa fee for PK passport plus proof of stay (e.g hotel booking, invitation letter etc).
I'd suggest renew ur Canadian passport ASAP & travel on that one.

I am only in dubai for like 3 hours , and that too in the airport, i need a transit visa i believe. I am in the states and cannot make it to canada before my flight wednesday morning out of houston.

No. If you're only transiting in Dubai you will normally not need a transit visa since you don't go through immigration anyway. But if they do check your passport at the time of boarding, which they mostly do, then your expired Canadian passport might cause some trouble. So to be on the safe side, I'd suggest you get it renewed before you travel.

Citizenship card is not a travelling document, you will be troubled or deported from Dubai airport if you are there for visit. You need a visa, or contact Canadian embassy in Buffalo or DC and get your Canadian passport on urgent basis.
Transit is always welcome on free ports, you know. Thats their business.

For 3 hours I don't think you will be leaving the airport even, so you should be fine with your Pakistani passport.
