Expiration Date

Apparently, singers just expire after they hit 30 or 40 in our music industry.

Guys who have excellent voices and could be making new music and innovative moves in our industry, as they are classy and talented (or well, relatively) are nowhere to be seen. Or they are seen in random concerts in the USA singing the same songs they were singing in the 70’s and 80’s.

Where is Bunny? Tina Sani? Hasan Jehangir? Alamgir (is he dead?)? Shaiki?

These guys came up with some great songs that are now becoming classics. And they have great voices…unlike…many of today’s singers who really can’t carry a tune, but just have some extra cash lying around and are able to carry themselves afloat with a sexy video.

Normally, other cultures honor and learn from their aging maestros. Ours apparently come with an expiration date.

well pcg you are right that our singers do become classic after a certain age.all we can hear nowadays are underground bands.eben junaid jamshed hasnt released a new album r maybe i dont abt it. as far as tina sani is concerned, she comes out with some songs occasinally, hasan jahangir is releasing an album soon
alamgir isnt dead.he comes to chicago every yr to sing in some aug 14 fest.

Well, you could argue that since all the new hot young acts keep springing up, the Pakistani folks keep gearing towards these guys and turn the back on the older lot, and then you could say the older guys are too snobby to cater to the "new tastes" so they fade away....this actually is true, and I dont agree with the notion that every artiste ought to make the music strictly to his or her liking. It doesn't work that way if you want to survive in the music world, and it's insane that this is advocated by many of our music critics. Even U2 spent years trying to fine tune it's songs so they would be "hits". But PCG, I guess the older lot is simply too arrogant - or perhaps dejected and over-nostalgaic to keep up with the times! There really is space for* everyone* now with the massive expansion of the music scene....anyway, just my rambling thoughts hope u guys can make sense of it all :). By the way, it's debatable that Tina Sani was ever a mainstream artiste...she was one of those selective, catering to a select niche sort of a singer...

agree with bolly's points. Some are just too arrogant to change themselves with time. And nothing wrong with having an expiration date. I don't particularly care for 45 year guy dancing in the stage acting like a fool. This is what I like about paki music. We listen to an artist till they hit about 40 and than we find someone else to follow.

Re: Expiration Date

I hate Bunny!!! ARGH

Alamgir lives in Houston or somewhere in the US I think cuz my aunt always goes to his concerts in Houston.

Hasan Jahangir - beurk!
