like what sources might be helpful in finding a co-op in germany, austria...or..? what is the probablity of a student studying in the us to find a co-op in germany, austria...?any special requirements and so on..
any suggestions..comments...

The prime language in Austria is German! And although many people here speak English, in addition to your job skills at least a basic level of German is required to find a qualified job, unless you apply for a job at the UN or you'd work for an embassy.
Overall the salaries here are lower than those in the US, but then the cost of living is less too. So I guess the living standard you can maintain here is more or less the same.
By co-op you mean kind of an internship?

yes..co-op(cooperative education) is sort of an internship..with a difference that..
-its not limited to 3 months(summer)
-it is normally related to the major of the student
-college credit is given for doing a co-op
heart_beat, if you are able to communicate in german then you should have no problem finding a co-op job, if the possiblity is given but here I am not sure how it works. I think the best is that if you contact the local universities and institutes here in Austria, as they will be able to give you the list of openings for co-op jobs and advice you further concering if credits are given or not.

just spent a couple of summers in germany during which i took german classes. i am not fluent in german.. i am ok..
i think you misunderstood me when i mentioned “-college credit is given for doing a co-op”. the credit would be given by my uni in the us

also i doubt that the austrian companies might be having an info on the co-op thing but i will still give it a shot.

well once u get a job offer from an Austrian company, obtaining the required visa is not a problem which i am sure is true for any other country.

Who cares about higher salaries if they are not granted 5/6 weeks of regular holiday/vacation, about 10-12 public holidays each year. Unlimited sick leave. 2 - 2 1/2 years of maternity leave for mothers and even fathers. Social insurance that covers all medical aspects. Lay off’s insurance from government. Monthly child allowances and Christmas and Holiday extra pay. Ok but in return you have to pay 1/3 of your income for taxes. So I guess its equal.

honestly speaking, right now money is not my first priority....
hmm i have noticed that in general europeans have a different opinion towards work/money unlike ppl living in the us who tend to be more obsessed with earning more and more money.
That’s true! 5 weeks of paid vacations by law. And a good social system. That needs to be financed somehow. And that’s why our tax burden is so high.

Here is rule in some universities that Student must have to do inteurnship for atleast six months outside of Germany and they have special department “Foreign Student Exchange Program”. You can contact them and may be you find some solution.
Seconds way to find a co-op company in Germany is to conatct the companies yourself. There are a lot of Job Search Engines but in German

Moved From General to Careers
Germany would be the last European country where I would like to work. Salaries are good but Germans are not.
Austria is much better though, well nice country & people are way better as compared to Germans, though they share the same language. Salaries in Austria are less but its cheaper place as compard to Germany or Netherlands. Most Expensive countries in Europe are in North (Sweden & Findland) then its UK as far as living is concerned.
Germany do offer internships for non-EU nationals though so search on the Internet & I am sure u will find something. As far as my limited knowledge tells me Austia doesn’t offer internships to non-EU nationals. There are limited plans for internships for American/Canadian/NZlands & Australians in UK so if u are interested search the internet (query the search engines ending with .co.uk). I dont know anything about Netherlands so dont ask me, but Dutch people are the 2nd most un-generous I have ever seen in Europe (I would regard Germans as first, they have supiriority complex), but in Rome do as the Romans do … in Netherlands do as the Dutch do …

To work in any EU country you must have to be EU national (citizen) as an American/Canadian citizen working conditions are not very strict for you but you still need a work permit to work or a residence permit to live in an EU state.

nobody likes the German attitude to non-germans, especially not my Austrian fellows, interesting what you wrote about the germans I think its quite true they have some amount of superiority complex and ungenerousity to others. I think in comparision the Austrians are way nicer

Sweden people pay the most taxes in europe but for that they have the best social security and the distribute from rich to poor.
hmm i have also “heard” that Germans are a bit too arrogant and not friendly..however my experience with Germans has been really good. The friends i made there were reaallly nice.
thats probably one of the reasons i would like to work there but ofcourse i would be more then happy to work in Austria..as far as the money thing goes; I DON’T CARE
