Experimentation in Calligraphy

Friend of mine in UAE working on a Islamic site she asked me word Aslamualekum in Arabic calligraphy, So I decide to give a shot with new aproach, Here is the sample, it took an hour from sketch to finish. Lets See what every one thinks?

Re: Experimentation in Calligraphy

Well, I think I should include the original rough sketch to give an idea or education to other artist, So they will know how this art is created, if any one have any other question and like to learn more about art, Please ask me, I love to share with honesty.

Re: Experimentation in Calligraphy

woooo u did thisss?its lovelyy Mashallah

Re: Experimentation in Calligraphy

how did u fill in the colours??

Re: Experimentation in Calligraphy

Well I normally finish with Indian ink on Vellum paper,
but this one is done on computer first I scan my rough sketch into MAc, then I open it in Adobe illustrator, Used the pen tool to draw by mouse, then fill with various gradient colors its very easy if you know how to use Adobe Illustrator.

Re: Experimentation in Calligraphy

:mash:…u did a superb job on illustrator.

i also bought vellum and black ink, so what kinda pen should i use to do the calligraphy?

Re: Experimentation in Calligraphy

it's gorgeous!

Re: Experimentation in Calligraphy

For pen I use SAKURA's Micron pen they come in diffrent sizes I use the brush pen they are made in Japan and there ink is Archival quality, and quality is great, You can use any black pen or even just indian ink and any fine brush, perhaps some experimantation first and see what's suites your need. you can use the sketch underneath the vellum paper and move around if you wish to adjust the art, Plus very important, Use some other paper or fabric under your hand, We have moisture and oil in our skin and that will effect the paper and the art so be gentle and handle with love care and keep it clean ;-)

Re: Experimentation in Calligraphy

Start sketching all the time, Plus start looking at every object as a subject to draw, try to look at every thing in one dimension(flat),

You are welcome to ask any question you like I will help you with what ever i know;-)
