So how the hell are we supposed to have experience if noone will hire you coz you don’t have the experience they need
I’m trying to apply and I suspect my experience (or lack thereof) is going to work against mE ![]()
Re: "Experience req'd"
volunteer....thats how u get experience if no one will hire you based on ur lack of experience...
Re: "Experience req'd"
ya volunteer... by the what kind of job(s) are you applying for?
Re: "Experience req'd"
^ secretary, office assistant, receptionist.. but even those require experience :(
Re: "Experience req'd"
Trust me... everyone goes through this phase at some point or another.
Volunteering is surely a good way to go - and like I said before... never be shy of smaller jobs if you find an opportunity. You always gotta start somewhere.
Re: “Experience req’d”
Umar i have ALMOST a yrs worth of experience in paid job (weight room supervisor, office assistant, reception desk attendant, assistant to accountant :halo: ) but its still “not enough” ![]()
Re: "Experience req'd"
Volunteer for a charity/ two days a week. It always looks good on a CV and employers love it.
Re: "Experience req'd"
all employers dont require prior experience
you can always make your resume centered around your communication, leadership skills and education if your work experience is not enough.
Re: “Experience req’d”
Sara you can also look into Market research and survey jobs. I started from there becuz I didn’t hear anything from employers for customer service, admin and secratary jobs even when I went through so many agencies
Making market research and survey calls is far less painful then telemarketing becuz you are not selling something and this job does not require any experience. Once you have few months of experience, make your resume to look like you did some administrative work as well. I only worked for 1.5 months there, and then alhamduALlah I got good job in an insurance company where I gained my real office and customer service experince.
Re: "Experience req'd"
Companies dont like volunteer workers -
Sara there are tons of temp agencies in NY area. Try going through those companies let them know you are available for any type of temp work. Even if you have worked in good 3- 4 temp jobs its a plus on your resume....

Try networking( no not computer networking), if you already know what it is for the benefit of other it is using the people you know get a job, family friends, relatives, friends of friends, your hair dresser. Let everybody know that you are looking for a job, tell them also what kind of job are you looking for so that you do not end up interviewing for a job which you would not like to get.
Here is a good link you should visit if you like to know more about networking and how to use it to get a good job:
I am not allowed to post link the website is rileyguide.com look for networking here.
Another trick is to look at the trends , meaning what kind of skills are in demand and acquire those skills.

Re: "Experience req'd"
Ignore the "experience required" part if its something you think you can do. Believe me, many companies just want someone competent. Allow your cover letter to "Wow!" them that they will ignore the fact that you lack the experience.
Ignore, ignore, ignore, and send in your resume anyway. Insha'Allah something good will come up. smile
