Expensive vs cheap brands

Lots of girls would vouch for MAC eyeshadows, while lots rave about company’s such as Coastel Scentes, Pupa etc.

Some swear by their Chanel mascara’s while others are content with their Bourjois mascara’s.

Are expensive products better or are the normal drug-store one’s equally good?

Re: Expensive vs cheap brands

In general, the pricier brands. Although, I don't think MAC is that much more expensive than some drug store brands now.

I completely converted from drug store to department store brands a long time ago. Anytime I do delve back because something is supposedly really good.. always disappointed.

Unless a company owns two brands and they have some similar looking products, you can find that they are usually the same thing. For example, Estee Lauder owns MAC. EL Illusionist mascara (discontinued) was almost the same as MAC pro longlash but £5 more. The only difference was the MAC packaging and quality of the brush was cheaper.

Johnson and Johnson own both Neutrogena and ROC etc.

I personally like to get good brands for skin care products... moisturizers, foundation even but for color.. not so much. Cheap but good brands are okay for mascaras, eyeshadows, glosses, lipsticks. I do have MAC Lauder and a lot of good brands for color too but some cheap brands will totally give you the look expensive ones will.

Re: Expensive vs cheap brands

ya spiral is right ... even though i prefer MAC for the eyeshadowes and stuff but for excample there is one mascara by loreal which i cant live without ... or my facewash is a super facewasch from a drugstore but really works for me ...

so good doesnt alsways have to be super expensive and branded ...

oo u so smart.

burjois isn't drugstore/cheap.

for mascara ill always stick to maybelline great lash. so far the best one i've ever used.

Re: Expensive vs cheap brands

i need to stop visiting this section...makes me want new makeup all the time :(

Re: Expensive vs cheap brands

I know, it can be a curse :(

Bourjois is drugstore here (UK). It's not as cheap as Rimmel but cheaper than L'oreal.

Re: Expensive vs cheap brands

I think its about quality. Some drugstore eyeshadows dont even show on your eyes, theres no colour. I would much rather invest in something that i know will work and last.

Things like nail varnish and mascara im not too fussy about. I tired Stila's mascara a few months back, was SO naff. But Boots No.7 which was £5 cheaper is so good. I got asked if I was wearing fake lashes by one of the other teachers at school. I was like ' how dare you?! theres nowt fake about me!' However, I also get asked if i wear a wig sometimes. :(

Re: Expensive vs cheap brands

Bourjois is made in the same factory as Chanel… even thought their spokespeople insist that there are large differences between the two brands… according to some, the products look and smell exactly the same…

Now even though i know this, i still buy Chanel. :smack:

Re: Expensive vs cheap brands

Chanel produce the BEST eye pencil in the world. I have never ever ever used such a great product. Iv been using it for years. Its so intense, never smudges and comes on so smoothly. Everyone whose ever borrowed my eye pencil has always gone and bought their own afterwards. Even my sister who never spends lots of monies on make up.

Re: Expensive vs cheap brands

is there a drugsotre brand you would recommend for nice blushers which maes your face fleshy and healthy and natural so it means without glitter or just a little glitter.

^ try Bourjois blush it is really good and not shiny at all

Also there is a difference between drug store makeup and department makeup brands. The quality of pigmentation in some eye shadows varies vastly my no. 7 never show up with an intensity. While my foundation form urban decay is so better than no.7 again

Re: Expensive vs cheap brands

Bourjois eyeliner pencil is the best I've ever tried against the likes of MAC which was rubbish.

unforunetly i cant get this band here.any other suggestions?

Re: Expensive vs cheap brands

I buy both designer n cheaper brands I always find that the cheaper mascara always works better, ive tried Dior, Estee Lauder, Benefit and I always go back to Maybelline Great Lashes i love that, it does wonders!!!
But I have to agree with Milly, that sometimes when i do buy cheaper eyeshadows it hardly shows colour thats irritating :<
But I would like to recommend Revelon 12hour eyeshadow i really like that!

Re: Expensive vs cheap brands

I don't believe it's always the price of a product that indicates how good it is, but whether or not you know how to use it properly.

Yes people swear by expensive brands, but there are so many more affordable options out there. Use the product properly and would anyone be able to tell the difference between cheap and expensive products? I personally don't think so.

Some cheaper products are great, it's just a case of trial and error and finding the good stuff.

Re: Expensive vs cheap brands

please list some of the "cheap" brand, products and colors you recommend- facewash, eyeshadows, foundation, lipsticks, powders, blush, etc, etc
