Expedience

What is the standing of expedience in Islam? Witholding your objectives from view in order to achieve them. That is the basis for a lot of strategies, but what would the religious view of that be?

I know the shia perspective on it, what is the sunni view?

Re: Expedience

Expedience: Use of short-term effective methods :
the use of methods that bring the most immediate benefits, based on practical rather than moral considerations.
(Encarta-Dictionary:English-North America)

Re: Expedience

well lets assume that the stratagems are not inherently immoral, for example raping someone with an objective in mind is not defensible. But say if we go by this definition:

[quote]

the quality of being suited to the end in view
opportunism: taking advantage of opportunities without regard for the consequences for others

Basically hiding your intentions or objectives based on the idea that the end justifies the strategic duplicity, is that allowed? For example are there Islamic spies? Say hiding intentions or something along those lines.

Re: Expedience

^ spying for military purposes is allowed Hudhaifa Al-Yaman(ra) was sent as a spy by Prophet(pbuh) to the camp of pagans in battle of trench

Re: Expedience

^thank you.

so could one lie in the capacity of an Islamic spy, if say someone asked you "Are you a spy?" or say "Do you think we should win?"
