expecting

So i’m expecting baby #2 and going through some major nausea. I’ve been living on soup and fruit for the last few days. Some food smells really turn my stomache. My mom suggests green tea with laachi. Does anyone have any Pakistani foods that are good for pregnancy in general? Anything that is condusive to a healthy baby?

Congrats Saima !!! When's the baby due ???

With my nausea, I just lived on crackers and carrots. Drank ginger ale to help with the stomach. Paki food was not my top priority back then.
Try Irani/Persian pickles in vinegar. Most arab stores carry them.
Those were very tasty back in the day.

Hope the nausea goes away. It can be brutal..

I second the crackers suggestion, I practically lived on them for the first couple of months along with lemonade.

Not sure about pakistani foods though, they generally tend to be spicy and 'heavy' so I doubt they would help your nausea?

Yeah crackers are very important. I find that if my stomache's empty then nausea is worse, so i need some toast/crackers right away in the morning. One thing I remember my mom did with the first pregnancy was force feed me sooji ka hulwa with laachi, almonds, raisins and pistha. It's delicious and i can make it myself too. I think because it's just basically carbs, sugar and fat, it's meant to fatten me up and thus nourish the baby too.
Well I think the due date will be April 21-23. I haven't even been to my OB/GYN yet because they're relocating their office. Anyways we're all thrilled about this pregnancy because I just went through a miscarriage recently. I guess that's why I'm extra nervous since it's still in such an early stage without doctor's care.

Congrats mashAllah.

I think its kind of strange though that just because your GYN is relocating they haven't transfered the patients to another doctor for the time being or taken on a temp office?

Yeah it's been two days since they said they'll 'call me back'. I hate being a pushy and impatient person so i'll just wait alittle more.

congrats.
don't wait. be the pushy patient. they won't be upset....they get it from hormone driven women all the time. ;)

baby and you both deserve the best care possible.
for the nausea.....there's a tea you can make with saunf and elaichi and mint leaves. It's supposed to be great. Sweeten with a little honey or sugar and away goes the nausea.

hey congratulations!!
i dont know about any paki recipes for sickness, although i think u should avoid spicy foods, i was really sick in the beginning of my pregnancy had hypermesis and was admitted to hospital about 8 times every couple of days, had to have injections and drips and tablets to make the sickness go away, mashallah im fine now, although the sickness is starting to return on some days and im being induced on monday, so please do dua for me that everything goes alright.
towards the end of the pregnancy ive been told to eat that punjiri thing made with the suji and nuts and things and also been told to drink warm milk with butter etc not that i have been really, maybe i shud start now!

Congratulations Mesba, and I hope that all goes well for you on monday.

the butter with milk thing really works my freinds lives on that stuff and she delivers very easy..

Congrats dahhhhhlinfg

She delivers easily because of the milk and butter thing?

Hopefully you you will be over the worst soon - the first months tend to be the worst.

If you can find a japanese/macrobiotic shop, try umeboshi prunes. They're really salty but work well to keep the nausea at bay - pop one in your mouth and suck slowly.

"C-bands" are available here in pharmacies, can you find them? they're elastic wrist bands with a button that gets placed over a particular point on the inside of the wrist which is the acupressure point for nausea. With that in place you may be able to eat something (anything!)

Your diet should be a healthy one, nothing particular, just a good balanced and varied diet. Probably it is easier for you if you eat small frequent meals.

hey i tried them sea bands things and they did not work at all, but then again nothing worked with me..i hope you all have good pregnancies and sail thru them, i wudnt want to wish what i have had on anyone....

hey about some suggestions for baby names from u guys?!!? im soo stuck for names...so any ideas???
