ISLAMABAD: **Even as the US military is beginning to pack up its duffle bags in Afghanistan , the American foot print in Pakistan seems set to register further expansion as requisite infrastructure is being expanded to house the increased flow of personnel and equipment to further US post-withdrawal strategy in the Region. **Already the US embassy in Islamabad , as per the assessment of the Washington Post, houses the largest CIA contingent in the world and yet to acquire greater operational capability, US is all set to add further to its sprawling embassy complex in Islamabad.
**More than the horizontal expanse, it is the vertical dimension that has become a cause of concern due to its security ramifications.

**Surprisingly , the CDA has failed to take cognizance of the security threats posed by the height of the planned US embassy extension, which having nine levels enables the US snoopers to overlook most of the ministries and Government office buildings, including the Parliament as well as the President and the PM Secretariats.

The building plans if allowed to go unchecked will enable hoisting of surveillance devices and the electronic monitoring of important Government offices and functionaries. According to sources the CDA go ahead has been accorded without factoring in the approvals of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or inputs by the intelligence agencies leading to a serious breech in the security perameters defined for the Diplomatic Enclave in the Capital, which, unless corrected immediately, might turn into a strategic intelligence blunder of a permanent nature.
According to observers, the US plans to increase clandestine presence in Pakistan and expand its drone attacks capability; even as its military presence in Afghanistan draws down towards an exit by 2014.
Resultantly the US Embassy continues to pursue expansionist plans in Islamabad to accommodate greater influx of technical assets, undeclared CIA operatives and contractors in the mould of Raymond Davis to pursue CIA led operations in Pakistan.
It is in the same context that the US has been relentlessly lobbying for expanding infrastructure at Khalid Aviation Base, setting up of consulates at Multan and Quetta and acquiring land/accommodation facilities in major cities across the country, say analysts.
