Expanding Jobhunt options beyond borders

So i just finished my Bachelors in Telecommunications engineering from Karachi and have begun my jobhunt. I have had a decent track record in academics in the past and wish to enter a big name organisation to begin my career (Motorola, Ericsson, Nokia-siemens etc). Most of these big names do have graduate career opportunities, just that my options become far too restricted when I consider openings only in Pakistan.

I would like to try out other destinations as well, which include Pakistani favourites such as UK, US, Canada, UAE. Apart from UAE, do these destinations consider applications from foreign countries?

I have friends who completed their Bachelors from UK universities and are finding it difficult to land a job, most probably due to their International Student status.

Re: Expanding Jobhunt options beyond borders

international studentstatus, fit with roles, level of experience and level of university could all be factors for them.

I would say focus on UAE, they do consider applications from foriegn countries, find recruiters online, find opportunities directly oneline, and network through people you know.

it is always good to have experience so if u can get a couple years experience in Pakistan in a good area with a decent organization u will have better chances.

Re: Expanding Jobhunt options beyond borders

For the US its a little difficult to come directly into the US as work permits for this year have been used up and so the earliest you would be able to start work would be next oct. Other options for you that may be useful are considering
Canada and applying there - again fresh grads are hard to place.

You should consider a big Multinational within Pakistan that has a good career track as well. they are a great stepping stone to get into positions in their overseas offices.

If you are open to the middle east then you should definately consider that since the region is booming due to $100 oil. but be warned that brown == second class in most ME countries. Doesnt mean you wont get a great job and perks but it may not be the quality of life you want long term.

Once you have a couple of years experience in any of these countries, you will be very marketable to companies all across the world that do work across borders (and that these days is pretty much everyone).
