Re: Exotic Muslim/Pakistani Names?
Mahnoor is a pretty name when considered from a desi cultrual setting .
However.....living in the west.....the name will be pronounced as "manure." It's "exotic" alright......but not in a positive way. I think sometimes parents living in the west forget that they should pick a name for their child........which when inevitably butchered by non-desis....will not sound insulting.

NOT if u spell correctly...the traditional way of spelling the word causes problems. my nephew's name is Umar...they pronounced it as "u-maaar" then my bro chamged it to Omer ... now its fine! same my neice's name is Humaira but they called her Hew Mera then again changed the spelling slightky to Homayra ...its fine with everybody...i know u may say that well we should not change the traditional spelling! well, u can't always have both!**

Is it ok to name a Muslim baby Gabriel or Gabriella?
Is it ok to name a Muslim baby Gabriel or Gabriella?
I think it's okay. I believe the angel Gabriel is common to all three monotheistic religions. The only difference is that in Arabic.....Gabriel is pronounced Jibreel. But it's the SAME thing.
You can all a chair a "chair" or a "chaise" or a "kursi". It's still a chair.....the object doesn't change. Gabriel will more than likely be pronounced as Jibreel by desis/Muslims and it should be fine.
I'm not sure about Gabriella though because I've only heard masculine names for the angels.....never feminine names. For some names....there is a female variant. For example.....Jameel and Jameela or Shahid and Shahida. Haven't heard of Jibreela. Or for the angel Mikail......I've never heard of Mikaila.
You could ask this question in the religion forum.
