exfoliation

what is exfoliation, which product is needed for it?

Re: exfoliation

Exfoliation is usually just deep cleaning -- it gets out all the dirt, makeup and dead skin cells. It's recommended that you do it no more than once a week.

I use St.Ive's Apricot Scrub -- it's cheap and simple. Although, there are a tonne of other fancy products out there

Re: exfoliation

getting rid of the dead superficial layer of skin...makes skin look fresh n glowy!
yup not too often..especially on face, once a week is good enough.if you have a sensitive skin, you should not bother your skin much then with exfliation.
for arms and legs etc..every time you take a shower, mild exfoliation with a bath brush, loofah with your bodywash.endless fancy body scrubs are available at beauty supply stores..you can also use a home made scrub, loads of recipes online e.g some olive oil/baby oil with brownsugar.rub this gently on you skin where you think you need it the most like elbows, knees, under arms etc.its good to exfoliate especially if you tend to get ingrown hair.
for face, you can use a facial scub like sparklesnflorals mentioned..st-ives apricot scrub is universal:p...facial scrubbing can keep those black heads at bay too.

Re: exfoliation

I love the St. Ives Apricot Scrub, it's cheap and easily available. It also isn't super abrasive. Just dont over-exfoliate or you'll make your skin worse, esp. if you have dry skin. Over-exfoliating can cause more dry patches. I use a scrub out of habit 2-3x a week. I usually do this before a gentle and moisturizing cleanser like Purity. It's my favorite and it gets rid of ALL the makeup.

LOVE st Ives apricot scrub! It totally made my skin glow!

Re: exfoliation

Has anyone tried exfoliating mits from boots or avon? I just recently discovered them and theyre absolutely amazing for arms but mostly legs! You can actually see all the skin dust coming away with them. Ok sounds nasty but it just comes away smoother and takes out the fine hairs too! :aisha:

Re: exfoliation

Ou, that sounds cool. Do you scrub it on dry legs or wet legs?

Re: exfoliation

Skin has to be dry otherwise you’ll irritate your skin. Its like little gloves made of really fine sandpaper and you have to lay down a towel or something coz of all the dead skin that comes off… Ok again going off on the yucky tangent :smack: but for me thats the most impressive part, like visual proof it works! And you gotta do it in small circular motions 2 seconds clockwise then 2 secs anticlockwise. Takes max 5 mins to do the legs and results are visible asap!

Re: exfoliation

OMG! I will give that a try because after many sessions of epilating my legs, I notice hair that's growing in a weird direction and often becomes slightly covered by skin which causes it to not come out when I wax/shave. I will def. look for those mitts, are they available in the US catalogue?

Re: exfoliation

Erm not sure. Il try and find the link for the ones in boots/ avon and post it up.

Re: exfoliation

Exfoliation is just the abrading of the out layer of the skin....so that newer/fresher skin cells can emerge and provide a more fresher and rejuvenated look. Producats that are grainy or that have acids in them provide exfoliation.

I dont know how to post attachments yet but this is the avon one. Theyre called hair removal mitts. But the boots ones are exfoliating mits. They do the same thing. Boots ones cost £1.99 for a pack of 3. And avon ones i bought sone time ago but forgot the price but it was cheap too  hope that helps. And btw i get the saaame thing with epilating, ingrown hairs :bummer: this doesnt get rid of them all but it goes a long way to help. I think i just leave too long a gap between exfoliating but if done regularly im sure it would so wonders for the ingrowth!
