Lately I’ve been having lower back and leg pain.. My doctor said its a result of extra weight and I should lose. I’ve modified my diet since then (its an everyday struggle but that’s a different subject) but I really want to start an exercise regime as well…everyone suggests walking but even that is too painful for me, if I walk a few minutes I need to sit down. I’m ashamed and embarrassed for being like this and its leading to me being depressed and frustrated on a daily basis. Doing daily chores is becoming difficult and I’ve had to turn down some invitations to meet with friends because of it.
Most of what I’ve googled is about different conditions, I’ve already visited the Dr and he doesnt say anything I disagree with…no one close to me understands what I’m going through and I’m already feeling bad enough for putting myself in this way. Has anyone ever gone through the same thing or can offer advice?
Consult a better doctor if the pain is that severe. A chiropractor should be preferred. Such pain (lower back & leg) is caused by the inflammation of the sciatic nerve, the cause of which can only be ascertained by professional specialists. An athletic trainer or a physical therapist can tailor exercises specific to your condition.
Its not sciatic pain though, its a dull throbbing pain in calf/ankles and lower back. even now, as I just woke up , its still aching despite taking pain reliever last night.
Have your doctor refer you to a specialist, still. I had lower leg & foot pain when I was a teenager, and the doc referred me to a podiatrist. For several years, they made me wear orthotic shoes and special soles molded specifically for my feet, which fixed the problem by my late teens. The foot doctor said if it was left untreated for a long period of time, the rest of the legs and spine would eventually become unaligned and cause pain.
Well, if your doctor suggested to loose weight then he should be right as he assessed you. I am orthopedic surgeon specializing in lower back pain. Try with gentle activity such as walking or going up and down stairs. And since i don't know how acute your pain is, i suggest you ask your doctor or chiropractor. He/She can suggest you some exercise.
