Exercising but no results for few weeks :(

Is anyone else having unsuccessful weight loss issues? Some days I feel upset over it because I try hard but I don’t see results. I need to drop from 140 to 125 and my goal has been to loose about a pound each week.

All i can think is that maybe my diet is the issue.. but with pakistani food I can’t control my carbs much. I usually eat either rice or roti with salan for dinner.. any suggestions would be great!

Re: Exercising but no results for few weeks :(

I would drop the chapati in the evening and have the Salan with veggie, ur prob doing enough exercise to burn the amount u eat.

I've started a low carb diet ( even thou ur ment to drop like a stone in two weeks unhealty !) and lost 5lbs in two week. I tend to eat my carb what ever it is but a very low amount in the morning and then I eat protein and veggies for the rest of the day.

Stop eating well reduce the amount of White starchy foods and ull lose ur weight slowly. Even thou u haven't lost the weight u could be losing inches instead

What kind of exercise and for how long have you been doing it?

Re: Exercising but no results for few weeks :frowning:

Can you provide more details? Like how long you have been doing it? Whats your daily diet? You should also check your BMI (body mass index). I hope you know it already. Are you slightly over weight or more over weight according to your BMI?

Here’s link to check your BMI (in case you dont know it):

Re: Exercising but no results for few weeks :(

Try not to count the pounds mainly but keep measuring inches that you've lost. And yes, do post more information about how long you've been working out/your BMI/diet.

And yes, desi food is calorie ridden. The best way to avoid piling on the pounds is to just eat smaller portions. Half a roti with salan, the amount of rice you put on your plate should be about the size of your fist. Eat a huge breakfast of paratha or whatever else you enjoy, and during the day eat snacks at every 2 hour interval. Dinner should be very lean and minimal, and like I said earlier...if you only eat desi food, just really control your portions.

Re: Exercising but no results for few weeks :(

i think eating fish 2-3x a week helps. though i don't hav any evidence to it but every time i ate fish more often, like every 2,3 days i experienced weight loss. i was 70 n recently in a month(no work out) i became 63kg. coconut milk helps too. skip roti/rice at night n just eat stir-fry veggie, chicken or fish. No snacks after 8pm. Also reduce diary and sugars. they say eat more in the morning and reduce as sunsets coz metabolism is at highest with sun rise n goes lowest with sunset.

Re: Exercising but no results for few weeks :(

You can work out until you fall on the floor but it won't make a difference until you make a total lifestyle change.

Pakistani diet is not healthy but it CAN be healthy. You just have to learn.

For example:

Cut your oil down. Decrease your salt intake. Stop eating processed foods, takeout or fast food. Don't eat after a certain hour and break up your meals from 3 times to 4 - 5 times BUT keep the meals small. Not big.

Its not easy but its possible.

One more thing...you have to try anything for at least a month before thinking its not working.

Re: Exercising but no results for few weeks :(

Thanks a lot guys! here is a bit more information. I do zumba exercise for 15-20 minutes 5 days a week and I brisk walk for 30 minutes 4-5 days a week. I have noticed that I am shaping up around my back but no weight loss. I think my diet is a problem as I am eating cereal or oatmeal for breakfast and fruit throughout the day. I will definitely take the advice and cut down on roti in the evening and try to cut carbs elsewhere as well. It's been about 3 weeks that I have been working out.

Re: Exercising but no results for few weeks :(

Aight..say you eat 2 chapatis with chawal for dinner. What ya do is..have 1 and half chapati with a bit of rice. Btw..cut down on your rice. Instead of having everyday. Have may be 3 times a week to start with. Also, what kind of workout do ya do?

I would suggest to join a gym and do treadmill for at 30 minutes for 4 times a week. Also try to do weight training - lift weights and use weight machines.

Re: Exercising but no results for few weeks :(

While oatmeal is definitely healthier than bread or sweet breakfast foods like pancakes and waffles, it is STILL very loaded with carbs. Try having it every other day and cooking it in water rather than milk to cut the calories. It may help you to have egg whites with sauteed mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, some olives, cheese, and a bit of kefir or a green smoothie in the morning instead. All filling stuff with less calories, more beneficial fats, and way less carbs. Substitute some of the fruit you're eating with veggies or green leafy salads and drink plenty of tea (not chai) and water throughout the day. You should ideally be consuming half of your weight in oz per day. So 70 oz of water a day.

Re: Exercising but no results for few weeks :(

^even a whole boiled egg with the above extras and a slice of wholemeal toast will probably be fine.

i'd restrict my carbs to breakfast and lunch. at dinner half a roti should be okay. i really think rice is not good news. we have it like once a week max - we are six siblings and all our bmi's are in the low side of normal range and i'm sure it's to do with our diet, which is home food pretty much everyday. rice is usually once a week and pasta another night. our roti is made with wholemeal aata and a bit of white. as well as cutting back on carbs you need to make sure the ones you eat are not refined white carbs, so you'd need to change your rice, pasta, breads etc.

Re: Exercising but no results for few weeks :(

hey i figured out my problem. I was eating way too many carbs almost 70% and mostly sugar. I am trying to divide it up a little bit more evenly and see what results i get :)

Re: Exercising but no results for few weeks :(

Reha above very wisely said you need to change whole lifestyle to achieve any positive results.
