Exercises in pregnancy

So then expectant mothers, are you doing any kind of fitness regime during your pregnancy? As my nausea has just passed I thought had better start doing something as I usually do some exercises in normal life so was feeling pretty unhealthy. I am following Doctor Cathy’s preggo videos on youtube, starting with a warm up, then light weights for arms and legs exercises, yoga and a stretch. The idea is to not find exercising difficult after delivery… So she says!!!

How about you? Do share your tips and routines.

Re: Exercises in pregnancy

I guess I am the only one that likes to bop around when pregnant? Lol

Re: Exercises in pregnancy

I just found out I'm expecting! I've been on the fitness train for a couple of months now. Trying to lose baby weight from my previous pregnancy...
There's this site called babyfit that's been really helpful! U should check it out.
I still work out 4 days a week for 40min. You just need to slow down a little. Don't let your heart rate go up too much. Take it a little easier.
With my 1st pregnancy I did yoga, you need to tweak the positions a bit to a point where it's comfortable.

I recommend every mother to be to stay fit as it will help you feel more energetic and it WILL help you in labor and your overall postpartum health.

Re: Exercises in pregnancy

Congrats on the pregnancy, happy to know another fitness concious person here with me hehehe
I did start off with babyfit and yes they are good exercises, i switched to the videos because i had to keep stopping to look at the next one. I agree, if you are up to it and not getting sickness then its a great thing to stay fit during pregnancy. I was exercising regularly before getting pregnant and as soon as the nausea passed I just had to do something.

Any more tips please do share, maybe we can start our own little fitness in pregnancy group here!!!

Re: Exercises in pregnancy

Thank you!! :)

Nausea can be horrible! I had a really bad first trimester with my first one. I was seriously in bed all day and felt miserable. 2nd trimester was much better and I tried to exercise and be active.

This time around I'm going to 'try' to drag myself out of bed. Having a demanding toddler is helping me stay active. Im gonna keep using the elliptical machine :)
You can still go on the elliptical as long as you aren't keeping the resistance too high. I know a woman who went to the gym 4 times a week, swam 2 times a week and ate really healthy. She looked AMAZING! Her baby was healthy and happy.

Re: Exercises in pregnancy

I stopped after I found out I was expecting but I'm
Walking 4-5 times a week and doing light weights .. Can someone recommend good regimes to follow?

Re: Exercises in pregnancy

Puchi kuchi take a look at these, they are not high impact at all and it’s up to you how heavy the weights are that you use.Pregnancy Exercises - Biceps and Legs - YouTube

You will see more of her videos also look at babyfit Pregnancy Exercise Demonstrations: lower
Walking is a great way to go, if we can have good weather here in the Uk!!!

Re: Exercises in pregnancy

I love those videos!! Gonna try them out. How often do you do this kind of exercise?

Re: Exercises in pregnancy

I am doing them every other day or every 2-3 days depending on how busy I am with other things and family life. Some videos she asks you to repeat and that is what I have been doing because you really don't feel like you have done anything with having just done the sequence once. I would listen to your body and you will know if you can do another round or 2. :)

Re: Exercises in pregnancy

I'm feeling really bloated. How to make this go away??

Re: Exercises in pregnancy

Eat little and often, try to avoid heavy spicey meals as this can add to the problem, small and often is the key.

Re: Exercises in pregnancy

There are few exercise that you should never go in pregnancy

  • Don't lie flat on your back, particularly after 16 weeks, because the weight of your bump presses on the big blood vessels and can make you feel faint.
  • Don't take part in contact sports where there's a risk of being hit, such as kickboxing, judo or squash.
  • Don't take part in horse-riding, downhill skiing, ice hockey, gymnastics and cycling, because there's a risk of falling.
  • Don't go scuba-diving, because the baby has no protection against decompression sickness and gas embolism (gas bubbles in the bloodstream).

Re: Exercises in pregnancy

Most of women do't care that during the pregnancy they wanna to have the bed rest that is too much dangerous for their health some slight workout can be taken in order to keep the health better. In this way the newly baby structure also remains better for the growth of the baby.
