Exercise

Is it ok to exercise when ‘trying’ for a baby?

By exercise I mean: Cross trainer/treadmill and cycling…Even if you did conceive-its not harmful for the child is it?

Thanks

Re: Exercise

I really don't know but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry. If I were you I would not take the risk.

wish you good luck !

Re: Exercise

exercising is really, really good for your body and mind. speak to your doctor if you have any specific concerns, but other than that, keep it up. one of my colleagues is 8 months along and works out 3 times a week and has been thruout her pregnancy. another pregnant friend is also 8 months along and she's actually a spinning teacher and is still teaching! of course both of these girls were always super fit so they were able to continue at their levels.

the main thing they say with working out while pregnant or ttc is not to jump into hardcore exercise all of a sudden if you haven't been doing it all along. but if you've been working out, keep at it.

Re: Exercise

hmmm see the thing is that i keep thinking oh dont exercise what if u r and then my p's happen..so its like im wasting my time..im thinking light exercise cant hurt...so I guess I shud start going gym regularly..

Re: Exercise

^ no, exercise unless you overdo it will not cause a miscarriage... light exercise is an excellent idea- you should be getting some movement during the day anyway- even if its just a 40 minute walk around your block or 30 minutes on the elliptical. ease into the exercise, don't go all gung-ho as you might do yourself an injury like a sprain. and too much exercise can disrupt your cycles so don't over do it.
talk to your doctor and see what they say for the best advice, but from my experience, exercise is very beneficial, both when you are, and aren't, pregnant. it'll help your body recover its shape and heal much faster too after childbirth.

Re: Exercise

Also TabuB, I found that when we were trying to concieve I couldn't help but get discouraged sometimes and want to spend the whole day bumming on the couch - I found it helpful to go out to the gym and spend some time focusing on myself, I always felt better after a good workout. Like SGC suggested talk to your doctor about what's safe for you. Good luck !

Re: Exercise

Thanks guys, I'll keep that in mind...thank you :)

Re: Exercise

I usually work out, not extreme but atleast run a mile or so on treadmil, use eliptical and some situps etc. I was doing all these when I concieved, not knowingly as it was not a planned pregnanacy but it did not hurt my chances.
I did stop for a while (first trimester) because I was not feeling very good, used to get nauseaus and wanted to throw up half the time so I thought better to stay away from the gym.
I started working out again after asking my doctor. I guess dont do weight exercises
But working out does make you feel much better.

Re: Exercise

Yes, its absolutely okay to exercise while trying. I ran a 5K race 2 weeks before conceiving. It actually helped with my hormones. Good luck!

Re: Exercise

yes - it's actually encouraged.

Re: Exercise

Yes but I'd just be a little cautious after ovulation.
