Recently Ronnie Lee Gardner, 49, was killed by a firing squad in an unusual Utah execution.
Gardner, convicted of two murders, chose the method over lethal injection.
While we have probably discussed the matter of capital punishment to death, excuse the pun, I wonder what you guys think of the prisoner being given the right to choose how his/her life shall end.
Some of the people suggested that death by firing squad is not humane, others insisted that it is. Those that were generally against the death penalty felt that letting Gardner decide how he was to die was of some consolation and those that didn’t want to give him the option cited the fact that his victims were not given a choice so why should he get one.
I also found the below shown comment quite interesting…copied here for your reading pleasure…
I lived in a country in Africa for many years and their death penalty was usually the same as above; the only difference was that it was public and even aired on TV. It was actually quite horrible.
But how do you feel about giving the person the right to choose the method of execution Niksik?
I am not sure how much does that matter. I will pick the most painless matter for myself and I am thinking it might be lethal injection but only God knows.
I think it should not really matter and its a non issue. End result is same.
Which death has more pain? no one can tell with 100% surety as people are not alive to tell their stories. I have read all the execution methods and horror stories in detail couple of years ago just out of curiosity (my wife thought I am planning to kill her and i said why would i kill you painlessly?? ) . All of the methods are extreamly painful if something goes wrong.
But how do you feel about giving the person the right to choose the method of execution Niksik?
I don't like the death sentence. I think life in prison is bad enough. But then again I don't have the emotions of families who go through this.
Then I feel the inmate should have the right the decide. Usually by the time they are that point they've probably done "taubah" in their own way... They've suffered humiliation, remorse...hopefully...I don't know what to say.
No death penalty makes sense when there is a chance the person being killed is innocent of hte crime....
not getting the fair trial is the risk that is there but that should not be the argument against death penalty. When I hear of the people who kill innocent kids or brutally murder people, I feel like going and killing them myself. These criminals do not deserve to live.
I am inclined to disagree with Sehrysh in Asia it was a first rate detterent from turkey to Japan it was an excellent method of showing criminals what would happen if they stepped the line.
In the west the attitudes have been different, but then again they never got anything right in those days… a western execution rarely went well… few beheading were swiftly done.
The English had to hire foriegn executioners…
Asians even little Japanese ones manged to sever heads in one sweep… a great skill it is too.
I wish i could be employed as one… maybe i will work towards it
