Executed At 74 US justice at Work!

A MAN of 74 yesterday became the oldest inmate to be executed in America since 1941.

James Barney Hubbard died by lethal injection at Holman Prison near Atmore, Alabama, after a 27-year stay on Death Row.

He was executed for the 1977 murder of 62-year-old Lillian Montgomery, who he shot in the head and robbed.

She had taken him in after he served 19 years for another killing.

Yesterday six members of her family watched Hubbard die.

Her oldest son Jimmy said: “I was glad to see this part of our lives end.”

But the 66-year-old retired army colonel was unhappy that Hubbard’s death appeared so peaceful.

“I’d just as soon see the electric chair still in use or maybe the firing squad. It just seems like he dozed off.”

Hubbard is the oldest person executed in the US for 63 years. James Stephens, of Colorado, was put to death at 76.

More than 900 inmates have been executed since the ban on the death penalty was lifted in 1976.

So this guy commit murder way back in 1977, now in 2004 he gets executed at the ripe old age of 74. Did his papers get lost in the mail or what. Ridiculous system if the guy guilty he should have been executed long time ago if he is innocent then let him go, another example of a weak and inhumane system!

i on the other hand support justice no matter how late it came. just because it is american it dont mean we gotta condemn everything about it. atleast most american states have death penalty, europeans dont even have that and they just send serial killers and rapists to just live a life of comfort in jails. as a muslim we should condemn every injustice and commend every justice....

Justice can only be gianed through the Laws of Allaah 'Azza wa Jall and not through the Laws of the Taaghoot.

I not supporting this guy or his crime i am pointing out the failing of the system.

74 year old nearly 3 decades after the crime is commited is not a justice it shows a rubbish system. They had him in a cage for almost 3 decades then kill him. The point is justice should be swift not slow and lethargic like this system!

ak, a lot of people agree with you. The average time between the sentencing of death and actually execution is 10 years. The reason for the delay is because those convicted may appeal (request the courts to review the case). This is one reason why it's actually less expensive to imprison someone for life than to put someone to death in the U.S..

Justice should be fair and complete, sentencing someone to death and killing them the next day wouldn't allow this.

i agree and i am not defending the laws of taghoot, but life for a life is a law of allah and just because kafirs adopted it doesnt make it the law of taghoot. it only means that the taghoot have adopted the law of allah.

i have read this hadith of the rasul of allah, SAW and that explains that the rasul SAW accepted the word of satan as truth when he told the truth even though he lies all the times. although i take my words back about justice being done from the laws of taghoot.

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle deputed me to keep Sadaqat (al-Fitr) of Ramadan. A comer came and started taking handfuls of the foodstuff (of the Sadaqa) (stealthily). I took hold of him and said, "By Allah, I will take you to Allah's Apostle ." He said, "I am needy and have many dependents, and I am in great need." I released him, and in the morning Allah's Apostle asked me, "What did your prisoner do yesterday?" I said, "O Allah's Apostle! The person complained of being needy and of having many dependents, so, I pitied him and let him go." Allah's Apostle said, "Indeed, he told you a lie and he will be coming again." I believed that he would show up again as Allah's Apostle had told me that he would return. So, I waited for him watchfully. When he (showed up and) started stealing handfuls of foodstuff, I caught hold of him again and said, "I will definitely take you to Allah's Apostle. He said, "Leave me, for I am very needy and have many dependents. I promise I will not come back again." I pitied him and let him go.

In the morning Allah's Apostle asked me, "What did your prisoner do." I replied, "O Allah's Apostle! He complained of his great need and of too many dependents, so I took pity on him and set him free." Allah's Apostle said, "Verily, he told you a lie and he will return." I waited for him attentively for the third time, and when he (came and) started stealing handfuls of the foodstuff, I caught hold of him and said, "I will surely take you to Allah's Apostle as it is the third time you promise not to return, yet you break your promise and come." He said, "(Forgive me and) I will teach you some words with which Allah will benefit you." I asked, "What are they?" He replied, "Whenever you go to bed, recite "Ayat-al-Kursi"-- 'Allahu la ilaha illa huwa-l-Haiy-ul Qaiyum' till you finish the whole verse. (If you do so), Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you and no satan will come near you till morning. " So, I released him. In the morning, Allah's Apostle asked, "What did your prisoner do yesterday?" I replied, "He claimed that he would teach me some words by which Allah will benefit me, so I let him go." Allah's Apostle asked, "What are they?" I replied, "He said to me, 'Whenever you go to bed, recite Ayat-al-Kursi from the beginning to the end ---- Allahu la ilaha illa huwa-lHaiy-ul-Qaiyum----.' He further said to me, '(If you do so), Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you, and no satan will come near you till morning.' (Abu Huraira or another sub-narrator) added that they (the companions) were very keen to do good deeds. The Prophet said, "He really spoke the truth, although he is an absolute liar. Do you know whom you were talking to, these three nights, O Abu Huraira?" Abu Huraira said, "No." He said, "It was Satan."
