From what I understand, not every place offers the same rate of exchange. Online, the rate listed was 1.15 CD for every 1 USD..but then at my bank, the rate was .808 
Why s o much difference? Where can I go to get hte best rate?

Haha… you have to be careful how the rate is being displayed. Bank may be showing how many USD you will get for each C$ you give them. Exchange rates can vary a bit from bank to bank, but they generally won’t reverse out or have such mega differences.
Rule of thumb: Canadian dollar is cheaper than US Dollar (at least for now). So if you give the bank US$100, you should expect to receive about C$115 (or C$118, if you are lucky).

I've noticed that City Bank usually offers better rates than other banks such as Bank of America. Besides, City bank is much easier to deal with. Just call them, order and pick it up while BOA wants you to fill out a form etc. Money is available with 24-48 hrs.
Some hotels provide that service too.
