Well... I live abroad and sometimes one of my friend invites me over to his place... lets say once every 3-4 months. Everytime I go there, his wife cooks/bakes these amazing things. His wife just says salam and never actually sits with any of his friends including me.
I have complimented my friend 3-4 times in total in 2 years (in the absence of his wife ofcourse) that mashAllah bhabi is an amazing cook and that he is lucky.
it also depends on how close you are to the person, is it family, close friend, acquaintance? what might seem like a huge compliment coming from a close friend/family member might sound weird coming from an overzealous acquaintance, gotta know the limits.
