Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

Hi everyone,

Are the bicycle machines a good excersize? I always thought it wasn’t as good as other workouts because you are just sitting there peddling?

Advice?
Thanks.

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

i get a full body sweat when biking on my stationary bike. i like it cuz i can barely jog cuz my knees hurt and it's cheap to get a bike, i got mine from sears for like $179. plus winter here is like forever.

the fitness lady at my fat group told us that as long as it is cardio, you are doing yourself good. contrary to what most ppl think that well you're only moving your legs so nothing else will be affected.

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

I have a stationary bike and a cross trainer AND a stepper. Theeasiest on joints is bicycle, though it burns less calories but 30-60 minutes of bicycle is good enough cardio.

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

hmmm good deal you guys.

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

i prefer the elliptical over treadmill or bike any day...
I read a fwe years ago that hte best cardio for ur abs is running (or ellitpcial) over bike... whether its true or not, ive stuck to that..

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

Abs… :crying: Lets not talk about that!
Makes me want to cry …

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

Schwins makes real good bikes..the ones used in spinning classes...,there is a home version of them..too. If used with full determination..they make the entire body sweat.

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

If your wanting to work your legs, then yeah.

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

I have heard a strange thing about using bicycle machine, that the hip bone can get broad because of its regular use...

Is it true? :|

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

Ummm I think thats a concern for younger girls.
Im married and old and been through it all - my hips are already wide..

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

For your lower body it works great. And elliptical are better than trade mills because they don't hurt your knees.

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

So if ur hips to waist ratio is very..umm..straight! bicycle will fix that??

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

Sara try pilates - it really really works

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

So it actually is true? :|

I have a friend, who is super-slim...and no...she wasn't born slim...she was quite obese at a time, and used to weigh over 70 kgs, then she reduced her weight through diet control and exercise, and now weighs 46 kgs, she is the source of this information, and since she is quite into working out, diet control and all, so I couldn't really ignore what she said. She says that walk is the best thing to keep weight under control, and cycling shouldn't be done for more than 10 minutes a day and ab king pro for 5 minutes a day, as it can transform fat into muscle...:|

Now what do you people say about it?

I'm not over-weight myself, but I DO wish to have a flat tummy, which is just not possible without exercise, so which exercise should I go for? Suggestions/advice...anyone?

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

i agree

Re: Excersize Advice: Bicycle machines

um i dont think any thing can change the size of the hips once hte person has stopped growing. It's only the fat coming on or off that makes it look wider/narrower..
