always revise just before u go for exam.I forget stuff but not if i revise just an hour before.Make a note of the topics that u think you will be forgetting.
Prepare once.Go through the whole thing again (the specific topics you feel you need more revision) and if that too isnt enough,go through it again just before exam

P.S - Careers and Academics thread...Score! bwahahah xD

Re: Exam Revision.

I usually Revise a week before the big day:D

The power of three is always recommended. You have to make sure you really really know your stuff...I usually also go to the online resourses provided by the text book company. It trains your mind to pin point stuff as you are rereading it.
I am one of those people who keep on studying till the end...like minutes till the teacher says "Put your books and things away"...Im like "do we have to":D

Re: Exam Revision.

Always look at your lecture notes the same day the lecture is done (or the day right after, but not too far). Never ever let things pile up. No matter when you decide to revise material, it will all seem very familiar and much more easier to handle than looking at it for the first time just before exam period starts. I have had relatively stress-free exams for the past four to five years based on this strategy alone. It takes a lot of motivation to stay on top of things during the school year, but you do get the rewards later on.

Re: Exam Revision.

It depends on the subject and lecturer.
If its a subject where the teacher actually teaches during the semester, i only need 3 days to cram for a mid sem. If its a pathetic teacher who uses powerpoint week in week out, id need 2 weeks for a mid sem.

Re: Exam Revision.

Wowww! This is the thread I needed! LOL, going to reply properly in a sec.

Re: Exam Revision.

How long before your exam do/did you start revising?
- I have exams coming up in like 6 weeks.. so I think I should start now lol. I have done some revision sort of-ish.. a few homework essays, which is still good exam practise.

What materials/resources do/did you use?
- My notes from class & the textbook. For English Lit though, I think I'm going to need notes on the novels/poems from a good website.. any ideas?

Do/Did you ever find yourself getting stressed out because of it?
- Sometimes, but then I realise it won't help me SO I drop my books/pens, go watch TV/listen to music/freshen up & return after a good hour lol. THEN, with a clear head, I try and work.

Any tips/techniques on what to do or how to do better revision/preparation:
- Never leave it tooooo late (ahem, I am so talking to myself)
- DO what works best for you.. reading, making notes, talking out loud to yourself, questions etc - pick your style.
- DON'T panic, your more likely to mess up if you do.
- Practise questions help
- I need more tips myself.... lol... Anyoneee?!

sweet.i.f - Good thread kuriyeh :D

Re: Exam Revision.

Woah woah... All those saying they start 3-6 weeks before exam for revision, how in the world do you manage that? ;)

I always have oodles of assignments till the second last week before school ends officially..

So end up start studying 5 days max. before exam.. :s

Re: Exam Revision.

Lecture

  • 1 hour - transfer notes

  • 1 day read notes

  • 1 week read notes again

  • 1 month read notes again - by now it should be in memory

make an exam revision diary

2 weeks before exam - remove all distractions that will stop you studying
Make revision notes - take 1 day per subject 2 max

Read notes 1 week before exam
2 days before exam
1 hour before exam (but with calmness)

Go into exam with the mind that you will pass

Re: Exam Revision.

It depends on how much you have to cover in your revision. If I did my revision 5 days before each exam, theres no way I'd cover everything properly and I know I'd be all over the place. Plus for me, assignments and homework essays can be a part of revision as well.. Personally, I learn quite a lot with each homework essay I do and it gives me more exam-practise than reading my notes would. So yeah.. but the thing is, if you have in mind that your going to revise 5-6 weeks before your exam, you KNOW you have PLENTY of time to go over things you don't understand too well or you can have all the practise you want. It's just LESS stressing that way because you know you have time :)

Having said that, different things work for different people. :D

Re: Exam Revision.

ahhhh all this advise sounds great if only i was sensible enough to take heed of it
2 weeks till my 1st degree final exam :( :( oh man im so scared :( :(:(

Re: Exam Revision.

ooh!! thanx, thats great advice!

very usedul thread! :D

Re: Exam Revision.

good advices..i will practice these now for my exam

Re: Exam Revision.

Hey, don't be scared and try not to stress. 2 weeks is plenty of time if you use each day wisely. Draw up a plan of what you need to cover and work out what your going to do each day.. spend a good few hours everyday, focus on your weak points, not what you already know & try getting a friend/family member to test you. Remember to stay CALM and all the best to you. Hope you do well :)
