Reuters) - Former Pakistan captain and wicketkeeper Moin Khan has been called up as emergency cover for Rashid Latif for the conclusion of the one-day international series against Bangladesh.
``We got a urgent message from the team management today that they need a reinforcement for Latif,‘’ Lieutenant General Tauqir Zia, head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), told Reuters on Tuesday.
Latif, who returned to the team in England last year after three years in the wilderness, suffered cramp while batting in the first one-day international against Bangladesh on Tuesday.
``At this stage we don’t know what Latif’s injury is,‘’ said Zia.
``But since the team management has asked for a reinforcement we are sending Moin tonight in case Latif is unable to take further part in the series.‘’
After a rest day on Wednesday, Pakistan play back-to-back matches to conclude the one-day series. Pakistan won the first match by 49 runs.
``Probably due to the shortage of time, they don’t want to take risks with Latif’s injury since he is the only wicketkeeper in the side,‘’ said Zia.
Moin, on the sidelines since the Pakistan tour to New Zealand early last year, said: ``It is a pleasant surprise, since I was not expecting a call so suddenly.‘’
I hope that we go on merit from now on as far as selecting a keeper is concerned. I hope Rashid is given a fair chance of getting back in the side unlike the past.
Former captain Moin Khan was held back hours after being told to rush to Bangladesh as cover-up for wicketkeeper Rashid Latif.
The chairman of selectors Wasim Bari admitted Tuesday that the tour management had sent out an SOS. "But after we chose Moin, the team management called from Chittagong and said Rashid was fit to complete the tour," he told reporters.

there goes moin's chance....
actually rashid is a better keep than moin....
but sad to see moin being in the sidelines even when he is at his best in the local matches....
i say keep rashid for the tests, and moin for the ODIs....
atleast we will keep 'em both happy - somewhat....
Actually moin's performance in test is much better than rashids.
and just the opposite in one days where rashid latif is better batsman.
moin khan is too good of a cricketer to be on the sidelines, i think he was a really good captain.
he should play in test matches and rashid latif should play in one days.
