Shujaat and Benazir meet in Dubai, discuss 2007 elections
In an unexpected political development, Pakistan Muslim League (PML) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto met in Dubai on Tuesday and exchanged âpleasantriesâ, PML Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed confirmed. Sources told Daily Times on Monday that both leaders had agreed to remain in touch to discuss the code of conduct for political parties to make the 2007 elections free, fair and transparent. âBenazir and Shujaat also discussed various other important issues during their meeting,â said the sources. Mushahid said the meeting was not scheduled, and the leaders had met by chance. âThey met at a marriage ceremony,â he said, and denied that the meeting was part of a PPP-PML deal. Mushahid told Daily Times that the door to negotiations in politics could not be closed. He said talks between political parties were part of democracy. He said the PML government had held talks with leaders of all political parties before appointing the chief election commissioner.
Online adds: Shujaat said the PPP would be the strongest opposition party in the upcoming elections, but the PML would not share its vote bank with any political party. According to a press release, he was talking to reporters during the wedding of ARY President Haji Abdul Razzaqâs daughter in Dubai.
Re: Ex-PM's Shujaat and Benazir meet in Dubai, discuss 2007 elections
Why govt. have to budge down and seek PPPs help? Why govt finds no other way but to try to get help from teh largest party innthe country.. Reason is present govt is not legitimate one.. Prime Minister of Pakistan has no worth along with a army of good for nothing ministers..
Re: Ex-PMâs Shujaat and Benazir meet in Dubai, discuss 2007 elections
Dunno if you saw the footage of the walima in Dubai on ARY. But as you know in our culture it is traditional that when you are invited to such a function you and your spouse sit next to the bride and groom in the front to have pictures etc taken. Yet yesterday Benazir and Shujaat were sitting next to the happy couple instead. No sign at all of BBâs hubby Zardari next to her - so Nawaz is not the only jilted one.
Re: Ex-PM's Shujaat and Benazir meet in Dubai, discuss 2007 elections
but I think hiding zardari away from public eye is strategic, ppl may forgive her and may have soft feelings for her somewhere partially due to the respect many have for her father but zardari is pretty much universally loathed, even in the PP supporters in my family, they think that he was the worse mistake benazir made.
Re: Ex-PM's Shujaat and Benazir meet in Dubai, discuss 2007 elections
That is a good point. But it is quite telling that BB is so desperate for some share of power, that she has even hidden her husband from public glare. :)
Re: Ex-PM's Shujaat and Benazir meet in Dubai, discuss 2007 elections
True, after his release from jail, Zardari was a 'hero' to some, for stoically holding out and not making a deal. But as he went back to his usual self, people remember him for his 'usual self'.
Referring to the repeated claims being made by the Punjab PPP leadership that they would âconquerâ Lahore in the next elections, Malik said the city remained a stronghold of Mr Sharif and his party would not allow anyone to harbour designs to capture it. He said the PPP had the illusion that it would âtake overâ the metropolis in the polls, but the PML-N would remove this baseless impression in the electoral bout.

Also, PPP is 'sorta' closer in ideology of Mush... 'secularism', while PML is closer to MMA.... though, to me they are nothing more than bunch of lotas.
Re: Ex-PMâs Shujaat and Benazir meet in Dubai, discuss 2007 elections
Whatâs the betting that BB and Shujaat bump into each at Starbucks or some place and share a coffee.** :D**
Benazir, Shujaat to visit NYC
PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto is arriving in New York over the weekend, according to reliable sources. Apart from other engagements, she will address a function in Brooklyn, a borough of New York City, on March 18 to mark the Pakistan Day. Meanwhile, PML-Q chief, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, is reaching here on Saturday, the sources said. No details were available about his visit.

It will be really fun to see the PPP jiyalas on GS singing the General-President's praises, because after all he will remain supreme ruler of Pakistan whatever the agreements made. :)
