Not sure who is truly running the lawyers movement. Ex CJ have received a lot of support from the US institutions. Instead of appreciating it and saying thank you, Pakistani lawyers are burning the US flag.
Many people will come to the defense of lawyers, but looks like they are are not heading in the direction of anarchy.
MULTAN: Lawyers Friday locked the district court and took out a rally as part of their movement for the restoration of the deposed judges.
The rally, which began from the district bar hall, culminated at the zilla nazim’s office, where the lawyers burned an effigy of President Asif Zardari and a US flag, before dispersing peacefully.
Earlier, speaking at a meeting held at the district bar hall, the leaders of the lawyers said that during the next phase, courts across the country would be locked, while adding that the movement would continue till the reinstatement of the deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Re: Ex-CJ gets medal in the USA while Pakistani lawyers burn US flag
They burn flag in response of US admin. policies and medal is given by universities not Bush admin. If US is so much concerned about Justice he would have not pressurized Musharraf to sack CJ as CJ was listening cases to missing people and certainly this medal is not gievn to US Supreme Court as they have not power to even listen a single case against GITMO !

One thing, CJ was awarded by NY bar (a lawyer's association) and Harvard LAW SCHOOL, not the Govt. of USA.
Secondly, the flag is burnt to condemn any govt. like we see flags of India and Israel or denmark getting burnt time to time. Those are also not against the people of respective countries.
I'm not defending the burning of flags, but the whole phenomenon should be well-understood before making any comment.

Burqa, the US Govt stayed quiet and supported the tin pot two bit dictator while perhaps the greatest injustice was done to a country's judiciary. Supporting Musharraf was a big mistake for the US, and after all this time they finally realized what a blunder they made. It is this Govt that people all over the world held negative sentiments about, NOT the bodies in Harvard and other places which awarded the great Chief Justice of Pakistan this pretigious honor.

Oh well. So much for the educated and peace loving lawyers that are supposed to uphold the law. :(
Re: Ex-CJ gets medal in the USA while Pakistani lawyers burn US flag
^ What law did they break Aalsi? Perhaps anti-US protests in Musharrafs times were considered 'unlawful' considering Musharraf was the biggest stooge of the US, it certainly isnt the case anymore.
