I believe the best consensus solution that has emerged so far is taking the measurements by one-self/relatives and handing it over to the darzi.

Females taking their own measurements while t/ tailor instructs them to do so...hmmm, never heard of such a thing in my life while growing up in Pakistan.

You need to find a good decent tailor and leave your measurements w/ him (in my case it was for t/ next 10-15 yrs!) Once or 2wice I was referred to such sleezy darzis and needless to say I nevr back there again. You can also take one of your previous shirts for measurements becuse in most cases tailors do accept that. That's how I got all my wedding clothes tailored while remaining in t/ U.S.
