Has anybody thought that the evil eye is just another name for the jealousy of others that has become sour?
I mean we seek protection in Surah Falaq from people who exhibit harmful practice against us and in Surah Naas we seek protection against becoming such people by praying to be given the ability to ignore those whispers.
Whispers that could put undue jealousy in the hearts.
Jealousy is like a du'ah in contempt and if we make such du'ahs they could be accepted, or as a result of jealousy a person could say out loud 'I wish such and such ...' and the evil around them who hears that could make it happen.
