evil-eye: what do you believe in?

I’m talking in the context of little kids, but also in general

I believe in the evil-eye, I also believe in prayers and duas such as Ayat-ul-kursi and the Quls and Manzil for protection against it, saying mashAllah, and also that giving sadqa also helps BUT I neither believe nor understand
-Taweez around the kids neck-and that the string/thread has to be black
-Putting kajal/surma is baby’s eyes or a kaala nazar ka teeka
-black beads bracelets around the baby’s wrists
-anklets

I was also thinking that this thing probably just exists in our subcontinental culture, I don’t think people use such stuff on kids in the west, middle east or east-asian countries

oh and elders also say that one should always cover a baby’s milk bottle whilst feeding the baby coz white cheezoon ko nazar lagti hai. I have no issues with feeding my baby from an uncovered bottle in public

what is your take on this?

Re: evil-eye: what do you believe in?

the Evil Eye is real.

about the things you mentioned, not really sure about that. . I do know of an alima that does cover her baby's bottle milk, but not about the white cheezoon, but more because people might comment on how well the baby feeds and that could potentially turn into nazar.

i dont think its only subcontinental, but throughout the world. The arabs/turks/jews have that evil eye amulet that they wear (and is now becoming some sort of a fashion fad :S)

Re: evil-eye: what do you believe in?

I believe in it to the point of reading the 4 quls on myself, baby, and husband, whenever we visit in a large group. Other than that, I don't believe in the taweez or surmas.
