Is there any physical evidence to support the theory that humans of the past were significantly taller than the average human being now?

Some would have you believe that humans 10 feet tall were the norm…

no. but there is plenty of direct physical evidence of "hobbits" aka Homo florensis who were humans of about 3.5' in height, and lived between 100,000 to nearly 10,000 years ago.

do these people with such tall claims have a place and time line in mind? is it 1 million years ago? 100,000 years ago? 10,000 years ago?

Muzna similar search shows that the tallest Primate was considered a Gorilla found is what is now modern day Nepal.

According to one episode of Cosmos (Neil deGrasse Tyson one), there was a time on our planet when Oxygen level was all time high. During those times, insects were huge in size in comparison, because there was plenty of Oxygen available to support their body. If it was possible for the insects, it could be possible for the other beings (including homosapien if existed) to be taller and bigger.

Now could they be up to 50 feet tall as some religious scriptures claim - I am not sure about that.

what TLK says is partly true. during the carboniferous era when oxygen was plenty, the earth was covered by giant ferns and bugs the size of automobiles. but this was over 300 million years ago. there were no mammals yet, not even reptiles (also no flowering plants, no yummy fruits). the highest form of animal life was amphibians.

^ OK so that was the only scientific logic I could think of. As queer mentioned that the highest life form was amphibians, then that pretty much wraps up the case as far as any scientific argument is concerned to support tall humans.

In that same episode trees were also extremely tall. Not sure why.

it is said that many prophets were significantly taller than the average human being now....

I find it odd to believe that higher concentration of oxygen will make insects grow larger.

Muzna, all we have to by then (I think) are the tombs of a few of the prophets. If you google them, you will see how long they are.
